Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Data and Information Sciences ( SDIS) was founded in 2026 by joining the School of Information and Library Science (1931) and the School of Data Science and Society (2022). SDIS brings together longstanding excellence in information and library science with leadership in data science, including computational and statistical methods, and societal applications.

Home to a top ranked library and information science program, SDIS is recognized for strong teaching, research and service and is the home to the Carolina Health Informatics Program ( CHIP) and the Center for Information, Technology and Public Life ( CITAP). The School teaches and trains undergraduate and graduate students in data science, health informatics, information science and library science, as well as offers certificates for adult learners.

SDIS conducts research and scholarship across the data and information life cycle, with an emphasis on human-centric, ethical and applied approaches. Committed to data, information and AI literacy for all Tar Heels, SDIS faculty are tackling our communities' most pressing needs and our world's most intractable challenges.
Position Summary
Hybrid: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC-Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Executive Assistant's (EA) primary responsibility is to provide executive support to the three Vice Deans in the School of Data and Information Sciences ( SDIS) at UNC-Chapel Hill. In this role, the EA will spend the majority of their time providing high level calendar and operational support to these Vice Deans. In addition to coordinating the administrative functions related to projects, this person will ensure that the assignments, requests, and commitments of the executives they support are accurate, of high quality, and deadline driven. The EA may also be responsible for management and triage of email communications for at least two of the
three Vice Deans.

This person will also work closely with other School leaders and will be the liaison between the executives and University leaders and staff. This individual serves as a key liaison to the Dean's Office team, communicating, helping to align work, and ensuring smooth exchange of information and coordination of schedules and priorities. This person will be responsible for independent problem solving, answering questions, providing information, and acting on behalf of the executive(s) when appropriate. The EA must be able to work within a highly functioning team and provide informational support to all team members.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

* Ability to represent the executive(s) in a professional and welcoming manner
