Position Summary
The CAMPerinos program at the University of New Mexico (UNM) aims to support students from Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker (MSFW) backgrounds during their critical first year of college, providing them with academic guidance, peer mentoring, culturally responsive programming, and targeted financial assistance.
The selected candidates will have strong interpersonal communication skills, have a strong interest in diversity and student service, and assist with creating, developing, and planning activities pertinent to the success of the CAMPerinos scholars. Peer Leaders will aid CAMPerinos scholars in adjusting to the University of New Mexico by helping them learn study skills and serving as role models for these first-year students. Peer Leaders are expected to work in a fast-paced team environment, aiding El Centro staff with scholars' academic progress, attending meetings conducive to the program's needs, being knowledgeable in freshman-level courses, participating in program trainings and activities, maintaining office space, gaining experience in all areas of day-to-day operations, and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
CAMPerinos offers flexible work schedules of approximately 20 hours per week, with some mandatory evening and weekend hours during cultural events. Required:
- Minimum 2.8 overall GPA with passing grades in Math and/or English courses
- At least a sophomore standing as of Fall 2026 semester
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Ability to complete tasks in a group setting
- Possess the following qualities: strong communication skills, ability to follow through on requests, problem solving, demonstrate critical thinking and creative skills, positive attitude, and ability to facilitate group activities
- Ability to use social media to promote, disseminate, and celebrate CAMPerinos-related activities, students, and accomplishments

- Campus involvement or knowledge about the UNM Main campus and various student resources.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Experience directly related to the duties of tutoring and mentoring
