Job Title: Production Mechanic
Location: Kanona, NY
Employment Type: 6-month contract with possibility of extension or permanent hire
Industry: Transportation Manufacturing
Compensation: $18.25/hour
*Opportunity for promotion and pay increase upon permanent hire
Schedule: 5x8. M-F, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM
*Minimal opportunity for overtime expected but could be possible based on business needs

As a Production Mechanic, you'll play a hands-on role in assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting the mechanical systems that keep rail vehicles moving safely and reliably. What You'll Do:
  • Assemble, disassemble, install, and align mechanical components and subsystems according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and torque specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to ensure accurate assembly and sequencing.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, torque equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely and effectively.
  • Inspect components and completed assemblies for quality, proper fit, functionality, and compliance with specifications; identify and report defects or discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work and communicate production or quality issues to supervisors.
  • Keep work areas organized and ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of tools, parts, and materials.
  • Follow all quality, safety, OSHA, and company procedures while contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient manufacturing environment.

Job Requirements
What You'll Bring:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience showcasing mechanical aptitude and knowledge of tools, either professionally, educationally, or personally
What Sets You Apart:
  • Experience working in the transportation, railway, automotive, heavy equipment, or manufacturing industries
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, and work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Technical certification or training in mechanical assembly or industrial maintenance
  • Familiarity with torque specifications, fastener standards, and mechanical tolerances
Additional Information:
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments (standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs)
