Description Job Title: Production Mechanic Location: Kanona, NY Employment Type: 6-month contract with possibility of extension or permanent hire Industry: Transportation Manufacturing Compensation: $18.25/hour Opportunity for promotion and pay increase upon permanent hire Schedule:* 5x8. As a Production Mechanic, you'll play a hands-on role in assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting the mechanical systems that keep rail vehicles moving safely and reliably. What You'll Do: Assemble, disassemble, install, and align mechanical components and subsystems according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and torque specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to ensure accurate assembly and sequencing. Use hand tools, power tools, torque equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely and effectively. Inspect components and completed assemblies for quality, proper fit, functionality, and compliance with specifications; identify and report defects or discrepancies. Maintain accurate documentation of completed work and communicate production or quality issues to supervisors. Keep work areas organized and ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of tools, parts, and materials. Follow all quality, safety, OSHA, and company procedures while contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient manufacturing environment. Job Requirements What You'll Bring: High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 1 year of experience showcasing mechanical aptitude and knowledge of tools, either professionally, educationally, or personally What Sets You Apart: Experience working in the transportation, railway, automotive, heavy equipment, or manufacturing industries Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, and work instructions Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Technical certification or training in mechanical assembly or industrial maintenance Familiarity with torque specifications, fastener standards, and mechanical tolerances Additional Information: Ability to work in physically demanding environments (standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs) Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
