Your Opportunity

The Farm Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs physical structures of lagoons and sewer lines in accordance with company policies and procedures by performing the following duties.

Core Responsibilities Learn, understand, and implement all policies and procedures that relate to Biosecurity.

o Follow the Company's animal welfare policies and procedures.

o Follow the safety requirement of the Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS).

o Responsible for participation in the EMS and being in compliance with all laws and procedures.

o Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

o Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite.

o Unplugging, cleaning, and PMing sewer discharge lines.

o Using sewer camera to identify plugs in lines.

o Complete preventive maintenance on sewer equipment.

o Candidate will work in all weather conditions.

o Use hand tools as needed.

o Required to be on 24-hour a day emergency call out, including weekends and holidays.

o Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

o Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to attain.

o High School diploma or GED, required.

o Candidates must be able to lift 70lbs unassisted with full range of motion.

o Must have valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record per company policy.

o Must be able to work an average 45 hour week with an average 9 hour workday, which can vary frequently.

o Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.

o Must be on call to work in emergency situations to include but not limited to barn plugs or personnel shortages.

  • Walk in or around uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day, walking down narrow alleys and in and out of narrow penning and inside pens with animals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs on a limited basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.
  • Must be able to operate a high-pressure washing system.
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
