Compensation: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour based on experience.

Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology -Clinical Immunology Laboratory in the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science invites applications for a full-time Medical Technologist position. The Medical Technologist I / Medical Laboratory Scientist I will perform clinical testing in laboratory areas including chemistry, hematology, molecular, and immunological assays such as ELISA, fluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry, tissue typing and lymphocyte preparation under sterile conditions in the laminar flow hood.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determines the acceptability of clinical specimens (body fluids, tissue biopsies) received by the laboratory for testing
  • Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records
  • Performs quality control and other quality assurance activities to verify performance of clinical assays
  • Maintains a safe, clean and secure working environment by complying with procedures, and CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations
  • Reports accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the supervisor
  • Maintains records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens

Conditions of Employment

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical lab technology
  • Eligible for certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
  • Effective English language verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations and show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology/medical laboratory science or equivalent education
  • Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
  • Previous experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory
