| Position Description: |
The Department of Biology at the University of Iowa invites applications for an instructional track faculty positions (non-tenure track, open rank), beginning August 2027. The initial appointments is for three years, subject to annual review. Instructional track faculty positions are renewable and include opportunities for promotion with longer appointment intervals. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This instruction track faculty position will primarily contribute to administration and instruction in the cellular and developmental biology courses, including Cell Biology (BIOL:2723), Introduction to Developmental Biology (BIOL:3233), Genes and Development (BIOL:3254), and other cell or developmental biology courses including investigative lab courses (examples: Cell Biology Laboratory, BIOL:3626; Developmental Biology Laboratory, BIOL:3736). Responsibilities of this position include providing instruction in lecture and laboratory settings and overseeing the teaching of the laboratory and/or discussion sections. Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following roles: define learning objectives and develop engaging lecture content that supports these learning objectives; train and supervise Biology graduate and undergraduate student TAs; revise or create course materials and assessments; revise or create lab activities, materials, and assessments; develop additional course materials such as syllabi, assessments, and lecture slides; and other instructional duties as needed. The course load will vary but is expected to be 2-3 per semester depending on class size, number of sections and amount of course prep needed. Successful applicants will have: 1) a PhD or equivalent in biology, cell biology, developmental biology or a related field in hand by the start date; 2) experience teaching biology lecture and/or laboratory courses; 3) one or more years of subject-related research experience; and 4) excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills. | Education Requirement: |

Demonstrated experience:
- Commitment to excellence and fostering a welcome environment in undergraduate biology education;
- Implementing learner-centered, evidence-based instructional practices and assessments;
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student outcomes, evaluations, peer observations, or teaching innovations)
- Analyzing student learning data to improve courses Using software platforms such as Canvas and TopHat (or similar software);
- Coordinating, supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants;
- Designing or re-designing courses;
- Using cell culture and model organisms (Drosophila, C. elegans, Xenopus, zebrafish) in a research or didactic setting that emphasizes cell and/or developmental biology.
