Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Iowa invites applications for a part time visiting faculty position beginning August 18, 2026. This is an entirely teaching position with no research or service expectations or time allocation. Appointments of at least 50% in each semester carry standard University of Iowa benefits. Appointments are for one academic year and may be renewable up to a maximum of three years total, depending on departmental teaching need and college approval.

Applications are sought from candidates who have: 1) a commitment to engaged student learning in undergraduate mathematics education, including the use of student based, evidence-based instructional practices; 2) experience as primary instructor of introductory mathematics courses 3) excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related field by the starting date to qualify for the position.

Visiting faculty will often work in a team setting with several instructors contributing to a single course. In addition to teaching lecture portions of courses, visiting faculty may also supervise graduate teaching assistants assigned to these classes, develop new curricula, and engage in other professional activities and services. The department has a history of collaboration with campus partners such as the Center for Teaching, the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology, and the Office of Academic Success and Retention. Visiting faculty may use these resources to develop research-supported instructional practices and tools to improve students' success.
