THE POSITION

The Public Health Program Administrator with the Department of Health plays a vital role in supporting safe and effective access to medical marijuana. This position helps ensure that permitted facilities follow state regulations, maintain high standards, and protect patient safety. You guide field staff, strengthen compliance processes, and support the mission of helping patients with serious medical conditions. This role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful public health work.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the Bureau of Medical Marijuana by overseeing compliance activities, guiding field staff, and helping ensure that permitted facilities meet program standards. The role involves coordinating key processes, reviewing program materials, and supporting field operations across the central region. As a Public Health Program Administrator, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Oversight: Manage tracking, logging, and completion of compliance activities for communications, renewals, and application reviews
  • Guideline Development: Create interpretative guidance, forms, and protocols to support field compliance work
  • Compliance Review: Evaluate inspection findings, investigations, complaints, and inquiries to recommend outcomes
  • Training Support: Develop training materials, assess educational needs, and support field staff learning opportunities
  • System Coordination: Lead efforts to establish training on the seed to sale system and maintain program relationships
  • Field Supervision: Oversee field staff activities, observe inspections, and conduct annual audit reviews

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Public Health Program Associate 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in the development, analysis, or monitoring of programs, grants, or contracts in health, human services, social or behavioral services, health care services, or health insurance; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
