Description

Under the direction of Food & Beverage leadership, perform but not limited to catering, kitchen, and other food service areas. Involving food prep, coffee shop, and convenience store compatibility. Provide exceptional customer service to our guests. Must also maintain a clean and professional work environment, including dish washing, and food sanitation. Must also be able to prepare food and beverages on the daily menu according to specifications.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for taking and preparing quality beverages: coffee, tea, smoothies, per recipe specifications, in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
Food preparation of menu items: sandwiches, bakery, and other items.
Cashier knowledge and register maintenance, including daily receipt deposits
Clean and stock area. Including keeping an accurate inventory for ordering purposes.
Prepare coffee and tea blends packages for retail sales.
Clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, as needed, notify supervisor for obtain outside service
Must display knowledge, and educate guest on brewing methods
Presentation and proper preparation technique is necessary for all food/beverage items.
Assure recipes and/or cleaning standards are followed
Communicate with Supervisor on a regular basis.
Inventory and order food/supplies to par levels
Take monthly inventory.
Maintain positive customer relationship,
Keeping the environment clean, orderly and free of clutter
Promote menu options to customers.
Process improvement: suggest new food/drink options, seasonal items
Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division


Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Education and Experience High School Diploma and (one) 1-3 years of experience performing as a barista, preferred.

  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

  • Ability to prepare specialty coffee drinks
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene and sanitation standards and the ability to maintain these standards.
  • Skilled at basic mathematical functions and applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical ability sufficient to lift and move supplies up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
  • Ability to walk long distances and stand during entire shift.
  • Ability to utilize excellent customer services skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MATC staff, faculty, students, representatives from outside agencies, business community and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, students and school personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, collaborate as a team member and some decisions consistent with established rules.
  • Ability to access and disseminate information using computers and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, ability to complete online mandatory in-services.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Supplemental Information

This is a part-time 43-week, in-person position (up to 19 hours per week) based primarily at the Downtown Milwaukee campus. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. *43-week position (academic year schedule)


Compensation Salary pay rates are listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal salary equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background as listed on the job application.
