Overview

The Sierra Lobo Rocket Technology and Engineering Services II (RTES II) contract provides advise and assist services (A&AS) at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Edwards AFB, California. AFRL conducts rocket propulsion research, as well as developing associated test processes and facilities.

Join an established team of engineers and program managers in the Space Access Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Rocket Propulsion Division (AFRL/RQR) performing research, and development on various engine and launch vehicle technologies to enhance the nation's Space Access capability.

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position will be located at Edwards AFB, CA.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Join an established team of engineers and program managers in the Integrated Rocket Systems Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Rocket Propulsion Division (AFRL/RQR) performing research, and development on various missile, rocket systems, space propulsion, and launch vehicle technologies to enhance the nation's Missile and Space capability.

The employee will participate in analysis of existing and future solid rocket motor systems through one or more of the following activities:

    Using and implementing advanced modeling and simulation software to include:
    • CFD and FEA analysis of propellants, nozzles, and other components.
    • Heat transfer and erosion modeling.
    • Use of advanced tools to evaluate current and future programs.
  • Developing test and analysis methods for validation of software tools.
  • Design and analysis of rocket motor components.
  • Interfacing with manufacturing and testing groups/facilities and personnel.
  • Participation in multi-organization Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) involving Modeling and Simulation of Solid Rocket Motors.
  • Oral presentations of complex ideas involving rocket motors, modeling, and testing.


Qualifications

REQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Air Force planning, program development, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of Air Force, Space Force, and AFRL strategic plans and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with incorporating USAF doctrines, regulatory requirements, and scientific principals into high-quality program briefings.
  • Advanced knowledge of rocket propulsion science.
  • Knowledge of USAF R&D testing processes and standards.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to build high-performing teams.
  • Proven record of DoD planning and programming success.
  • Advanced MS Office Suite skills.
  • Extensive public speaking experience to an executive level audience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering field or a business administration degrees with extensive relevant technical work experience.
  • 15 years' experience managing DoD programs in a scientific field.
  • Position may require occasional travel.
  • Limited telework.
  • Flex schedule 9/80.
  • MUST be a United States Citizen.
  • MUST possess or obtain a DoD security clearance.
