The Construction Project Manager manages construction projects from the planning stages through construction and start-up of building or material handling systems for building or manual handling systems for automated facilities through successful hand-off to field operations. This level will manage the largest, most complex (new builds, expansions and first-of-a-kind) capital projects for automated facilities and acts as a mentor/lead to lower-level Engineers on simple to complex issues. Collaborates with internal planning, design, procurement, real estate, IT, finance, environmental, legal departments. Contracts and/or manages, Developers, General Contractors and Architectural Engineering firms. Coordinates and communicates with local jurisdictions to meet requirements and to obtain Certificate of Occupancies. Enforces specifications, manages and monitors schedules & installation, creates cost estimates, manages capital and expense funding, completes vendor testing and/or commissioning of new and/or existing infrastructure. Travels to the job site to monitor progress and coordinate with vendors completing the work. Typically, will control projects for facility or material handling automated stations with largest cost, risk impact and most complex timeline and scope of work.
Essential Functions

  • Manages projects for facility or material handling of automated stations with the highest complexity, cost, timeline, statement of work (SOW) and high impact risk to the network. Projects may be first-of-a-kind, unique and/or have a three year plus timeline and typical financial responsibility of up to $100 million annually.

  • Acts as a mentor to lead others and may assist other Construction Project Managers or Engineers in conflict management/resolution, risk management - strategy of projects, identifying potential problems and mitigation plans for project issues.

  • Monitoring progress and performance against the project plan; taking action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays

  • Oversees installation, operation of equipment systems

  • Identifying, developing, and gathering the resources necessary to complete the project

  • May include enforcing engineering standards, designs and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors

  • Leads complex and numerous project calls with field operations and has influential communication to many areas outside of function and with outside vendors

  • Handles summary document for change orders to contracts to clearly explain changes to schedule

  • Influences vendor action and changes with deadlines. May be involved with vendor hiring, coordinating engineering firms, contractors and vendors and ensuring collaboration with each other, as well as ensure commitment to scope, schedule and contract for highest number of

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, construction project management or related area required. In addition to required experience, additional related experience may be used as an equivalent for degree requirements.

Minimum Experience

Nine (9)+ years progressive experience in multiple/most complex and first-of-a-kind Construction Project Management experience required. In addition to the required degree, an advanced related degree may offset experience requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated advanced engineering project management knowledge through experience

  • Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.

  • Full comprehension of construction documents and specifications and ability to comprehend technical specifications, drawings and construction documents * Proficient understanding of project or other CPM related software

  • Subject matter expert knowledge of departments/areas to collaborate and communicate with

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills necessary to communicate with engineering partners, all levels of management and vendors

  • Leads others to adapt to continually changing project initiatives with resilience and determination

  • Expert level time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve goals.

  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
