Overview

The Gnecco Lab centers at the interface of reproductive biology and tissue engineering to understand the inflammatory origins of uterine function and disease pathogenesis. Projects involve the use of primary human samples and 3D in vitro organoid model systems coupled to tissue clearing imaging to perform innovative and translational research. We use these tissue engineering approaches to dissect the tissue microenvironment with the goal of elucidate the immune-endocrine mechanisms regulating uterine health. These projects involve interfacing with clinical collaborators, handling human patient specimens, and interacting with end-users of the laboratory's approaches/technologies. What You'll Do

You will help develop a diverse range of 3D tissue models; learning, deploying and developing technical protocols in collaboration with Dr. Gnecco and other lab members; maintain the lab's 3D hydrogel biomaterial library, which includes characterization of reagents and gels using standard polymer science methods (molarity calculations, reconstitution, colorimetric assays), and assist with carrying out some cell culture (tissue isolation, passaging, freezing both of 2D/3D cultures), bioassays, and analysis in collaboration with lab members.

RESPONSIBILITITES AND ROLES: The Gnecco Lab Research Technician will lead the maintenance and organization of the tissue biobank including the logistics, handling, and tissue processing for cell culture. A portion of their time will be spent preparing and maintinaing hydrogel biomaterials, biochemical assays of tissue performance, data analysis and interpretation, and preparation of progress reports. The remainder of the time will be spent assisting in daily/weekly lab maintenance tasks in support of a range of tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and tissue imaging studies. Candidate will be trained by the PI and/or lab members directly on all methods and techniques.
Specific duties include:
* Assist in the tissue processing pipeline from clinical collaborators.
* Partcipate in lab duties relating to the shared lab space.
* Cell culture support- expansion and maintenance, media preparation, cell bank organization.
* Routine upkeep of the biomaterial bank including peptide reconstitution and characterization
* Perform similar and related duties as required or directed i.e., assisting in order and stock levels, making lab stock solutions for assays and culture medium, autoclave trash, waste pick-up coordinator, protocol write-ups and updates of general lab activities
* Specific experiment assistance as needed.


What We're Looking For

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's degree in bioengineering, biology, or related technical field; at least two years' relevant experience in a research/development laboratory; strong experience with mammalian cell culture and basic biochemical assays; familiarity with standard biology laboratory methods (microscopy, ELISAs, spectrophotometers, and other standard analytical equipment); detail-oriented; excellent record keeping; good writing, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to multitask and exhibit a high degree of initiative; strong organizational, time management, planning, problem-solving skills; proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; curiosity. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and milestone-oriented environment is a must.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with 3D in vitro models, biomaterials, organoid culture, and/or synthesis and characterization of polymer materials is preferred. Note that the candidate should feel comfortable to handle human samples, including biosafety and HIPPA compliance.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: Some night and weekend work may be required during complex experiments. The position is available full-time or part-time, depending on the requirements of the individual applicant.

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
