Job Summary

IPG Photonics continues to expand with new opportunities in our Massachusetts locations. The Metrology Engineer will be a part of a cohesive group involved in development and characterization of optical components and systems using laser-based advanced techniques.

Duties:



  • Set up and complete experiments on an optical table, including optical alignment, optical and electrical assembly and testing, gathering and presentation of experimental data
  • Operate and maintain variety of optical, test and analytical instruments
  • Test all aspects of optical components, critical for laser development and manufacturing
  • Participate in design and development of laser-based measurement tools
  • Develop measurement methodology, control plans and protocols


  • Advanced degree in Science or Engineering, preferably with Major in Optics or Lasers or BS with 5+ years of directly related industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with lasers and optical components
  • Experience with optical metrology
  • Working knowledge of Python or MATLAB
  • Experience with optical and electrical test equipment, such as interferometers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, organize and prioritize workload
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
