A Breaker Shop Technician supports a NETA-accredited electrical testing operation by repairing, refurbishing, and testing low-, medium-, and high-voltage circuit breakers and related power distribution equipment. This role ensures every breaker leaving the shop meets ANSI/NETA ATS/MTS standards, performs reliably, and is safe for field deployment. The technician handles the full lifecycle of breaker service work: disassembly, inspection, mechanical repair, electrical testing, reassembly, and final quality verification. Success in this role requires strong mechanical aptitude, comfort with electrical test equipment, and a commitment to precision and safety.
- Repair and refurbish LV/MV/HV circuit breakers and related equipment.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, lubricate, adjust, and replace components as needed.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
- Perform electrical testing, including contact resistance, insulation resistance, Hi-Pot, timing, primary injection, and secondary injection.
- Operate testing equipment such as DLROs, Meggers, Doble test sets, and primary injection equipment.
- Review test results against manufacturer specifications and ANSI/NETA standards.
- Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Document repairs, inspections, and test results accurately.
- Complete final quality checks before equipment is returned to service or shipped to customers.
- Support field service teams by preparing equipment for deployment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow company safety procedures, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, and PPE requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Experience with electrical test equipment preferred.
- Experience with circuit breakers, switchgear, or power distribution equipment preferred.
- NETA experience or NETA Level 1 or 2 certification is a strong plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and perform repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently.
- Ability to move heavier equipment using appropriate lifting equipment or assistance.
- Ability to work from ladders or elevated platforms when required.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear, and arc-rated clothing.
- Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, oils, and varying temperatures.
