Mental Health Worker (MHW) - Tigers Den

At Tigers Den, Mental Health Workers play a vital role in supporting the behavioral health and emotional well-being of adolescents and their families within a school-based mental health program in one of the Jersey City public high schools. This role offers the opportunity to provide direct care to teenagers in a supportive, trauma-informed environment while collaborating with families, school personnel, and an interdisciplinary treatment team. As a Mental Health Worker, you will build supportive relationships with students, provide case management and crisis intervention, facilitate psychoeducation and life skills groups, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and contribute to comprehensive treatment planning. • Providing direct patient care and behavioral health support to a teenage student population within a school-based setting
• Establishing and maintaining supportive, therapeutic relationships with assigned clients while fostering a safe and trauma-informed environment
• Managing telephone communication with clients, guardians, and school personnel, including initial outreach, case management, and providing case updates
• Facilitating psychoeducation and life skills groups for students on an assigned caseload
• Supporting students with behavioral, mental health, and wellness-related needs in collaboration with school personnel and the treatment team
• Participating in crisis intervention and crisis management activities in accordance with program policies and procedures
• Maintaining timely and accurate documentation in clients' electronic medical records (EMR) in accordance with program policies
• Participating in consultation with the interdisciplinary treatment team and contributing to comprehensive treatment plans
• Communicating effectively with clients, guardians, school personnel, and treatment team members regarding student needs and progress
• Collaborating with other professionals to promote continuity of care and ensure students receive appropriate behavioral health support
• Participating in team meetings, case discussions, and other program activities that support effective treatment and student wellness
• Maintaining professionalism, compassion, confidentiality, and a supportive approach in all interactions with students, families, school personnel, and colleagues

• You have strong interpersonal communication skills and can communicate effectively with clients, guardians, colleagues, and school staff
• You have strong written communication skills and understand the importance of clear, timely, and accurate clinical documentation
• You are comfortable facilitating psychoeducation and life skills groups for adolescents
• You can remain calm, compassionate, and solution-oriented when responding to behavioral health concerns and crisis situations
• You value trauma-informed care and recognize the importance of creating a supportive environment for adolescents and their families
• You are organized, dependable, and able to manage client communication, documentation, group responsibilities, and treatment-team collaboration

You have earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field and have at least one year of experience working with children ages 13-18 in a structured setting. You bring strong interpersonal and written communication skills, along with the ability to establish supportive relationships with adolescents, communicate effectively with families and school personnel, document client care accurately in an EMR, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary treatment team. You are prepared to participate in group facilitation, case management, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and school-based behavioral health and wellness activities while maintaining a compassionate, trauma-informed approach.
