Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Carpenter Supervisor to support facilities operations and maintenance at a federal facility in Kings Point, NY. The Carpenter Supervisor will provide hands-on technical leadership and daily supervision of carpentry personnel responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving campus buildings and facilities.

This position will oversee daily work assignments, ensure quality and timely completion of work orders, coordinate materials and resources, and serve as the primary point of contact for carpentry activities with site management and other trades.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide technical direction to carpenters performing maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities throughout the campus.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance work orders.
  • Perform hands-on carpentry work as required while providing technical guidance to assigned personnel.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with contract requirements, drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Oversee rough and finish carpentry involving walls, partitions, doors, frames, windows, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, trim, hardware, drywall, and other building components.
  • Plan jobs and determine required labor, materials, tools, equipment, and estimated completion times.
  • Coordinate carpentry activities with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and other facility maintenance trades.
  • Monitor material and supply requirements and communicate purchasing and inventory needs to site management.
  • Ensure employees properly document labor, materials, work performed, and work-order completion.
  • Troubleshoot complex carpentry and building maintenance issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, site safety procedures, and applicable federal and contract requirements.
  • Promote a safe, productive, and professional work environment and ensure personnel follow established work practices.
  • Communicate work status, scheduling issues, facility deficiencies, and resource requirements to site leadership.
  • Assist management with planning larger repair, renovation, and facility improvement projects.
  • Perform other supervisory and facility maintenance duties as required to support contract operations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 5-8 years as a carpenter with an additional 2-3 years of supervisory experience within the trade.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial or institutional rough and finish carpentry practices, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, supervise, and inspect carpentry maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, sketches, technical documents, and work orders.
  • Experience estimating labor, materials, and equipment required for carpentry projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with other trades, supervisors, site management, and customer representatives.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting materials, climbing ladders, bending, standing, and working in various facility environments.
  • Must be able to meet all federal site access, security, and background requirements applicable to the contract.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience supporting a federal government, military, educational, institutional, or large commercial facility.
  • Experience supervising carpentry personnel within a multi-trade facilities operations and maintenance contract.
  • Formal apprenticeship, vocational, or trade-school training in carpentry.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable building codes.
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and work-order tracking.
