Responsibilities
The Peraton Health, State and Local Sector is seeking a Senior Associate, Technical Project Engineer to join us in supporting and maintaining the Medicare Fee For Service claims processing system. In this role, you will be a contributing member of one or more Agile Scrum teams providing maintenance and operations support for the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) contract. The Technical Project Engineer at this level is an emerging contributor and relationship builder who supports the team in delivering value through Agile project execution. You will assist in defining Stories, contribute to Team Backlog prioritization, and help ensure that work meets the needs of users, CMS, and other stakeholders while complying with the Definition of Done. You will support the conceptual and technical integrity of Epics, Features, and components within the team's scope of work. Success in this position requires the ability to build and sustain working relationships - both within the Agile team and externally - including with Product Management, CMS customers, Business Owners, and other stakeholders. You will support the bridge between the development team and the broader program, helping to translate customer needs and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable work items under the guidance of senior technical and project leadership. You will work within a highly structured, rigorous development environment operating under the SAFe Agile/Scrum framework, supporting quarterly release cycles that are central to the DME program's delivery model. Responsibilities
Contributes to Story definition and supports Team Backlog prioritization to help streamline execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of Epics, Features, and components.
- Prepares for and participates in Quarterly (PI) Planning, supporting alignment of team objectives with program priorities and CMS requirements.
- Assists with reviewing and reprioritizing the backlog as part of Sprint Planning preparation, incorporating changing requirements, stakeholder input, and program direction.
- Supports Behavior-Driven Development by collaborating with the team to help detail Stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria.
- Assists with accepting completed Stories by working with the team to validate that acceptance criteria are met and that user value has been delivered.
- Develops understanding of enabler work by collaborating with System Architects, SMEs, and other stakeholders to support technical decision-making.
- Participates in all Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, Demonstrations, and Retrospectives.
- Engages with CMS customers and end-users to help understand and anticipate their needs, supporting communication of those needs to the Scrum team.
- Works alongside the Release Manager and senior technical staff to contribute to project strategy and delivery decisions.
- Assists with the creation and ongoing refinement of the project roadmap.
- Supports management of cross-team dependencies, assisting with negotiation and reprioritization as appropriate.
- Collaborates with client Product Owners and Technical Leads to help evaluate whether work adds sufficient value and supports team progress.
- Supports communication between Agile/project teams and key stakeholders by building and maintaining working relationships.
- Collaborates with stakeholders, including Product Owners, Release Managers, and Program Managers, to support consistent project goals and vision.
- Monitors and helps evaluate project progress at each stage of the development process, supporting status communication to stakeholders and customers.
- Assists with designing, implementing, and performing user acceptance testing on new programs, services, and enhancements.
- Works with the Scrum Master to help identify and escalate impediments to achieving sprint and release goals.
- Supports liaison activities between the project team, CMS customers, and stakeholders to help deliver timely information and updates.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience; 6 years with no degree.
- Exposure to the principles of Agile software delivery, Lean process management, and Scrum methodology.
- Basic understanding of the product lifecycle and product management discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people across levels of the organization and contribute to cross-functional collaboration.
- Developing leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assigned tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; detail-oriented with the ability to work with direction.
- Ability to identify issues and escalate or support resolution with guidance from senior team members.
- Ability to contribute effectively within cross-site, cross-functional team environments.
- Familiarity with Atlassian product suite, including Jira and Confluence.
- Basic understanding of software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
- Must be able to achieve and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Medicare Fee For Service claims processing systems, particularly Medicare DME, Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, or the Medicare Common Working File (CWF).
- Exposure to or experience working with or in support of CMS programs or contracts.
- Familiarity with SAFe Agile principles and/or interest in pursuing SAFe certification (SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager or equivalent).
- Federal government IT program experience.
- Awareness of healthcare claims processing workflows, data structures, and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with design thinking principles and human-centered design approaches.
- Familiarity with GitHub or similar source code management and collaboration tools.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
