We are mobilizing a team of leaders and subject matter experts within HDR to support a multi-year technology development and implementation project. These leaders and subject matter experts will be fully utilized in this technology implementation, creating several permanent openings within our team to backfill these individuals in supporting day-to-day accounting & finance activities and teams.

The Accounting Director will lead a team responsible for the global monthly close process, maintaining quality necessary to support financial reporting and audit requirements, and interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders to verify that accounting functions are meeting business needs. The Accounting Director will lead and maintain a strong team of professionals that enable HDR to maintain high quality and achieve results in these areas.

Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership, direction, and accountability across multiple Corporate Accounting teams, who are collectively responsible for maintaining the general ledger in alignment with US GAAP, management reporting requirements, and localized GAAP or IFRS conventions that must be used for global subsidiaries.
* Establish and maintain clear expectations, accountability, and development plans for managers and their teams to support timely, accurate, and high-quality accounting processes and deliverables.
* Oversee department workload planning, resource allocation, and prioritization to ensure deadlines are met during month end close, including but not limited to, monthly reporting, annual audits, and special projects.
* Drive consistency and standardization across Corporate Accounting teams and processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting packages, documentation, and review procedures.
* Monitor key close milestones and deliverables, proactively identifying risks, delays, or dependencies and communicating status to Accounting leadership.
* Serve as subject matter expert for complex accounting matters, process issues, system limitations, and cross-functional dependencies impacting Corporate Accounting deliverables.
* Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development across the Corporate Accounting team.
* Utilize high collaboration with Tax, Payroll, Treasury, Legal, Procurement, Human Resources, Operations, and regional finance teams to ensure transactions performed by those teams are accounted for correctly, while also providing relevant accounting data to those teams to assist in their evaluation and decision making.
* Support talent planning, succession planning, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts within Corporate Accounting.
* Evaluate existing processes and controls to identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, improve usability, strengthen compliance, and enhance scalability.
* Oversee the execution of tasks needed to support internal and external audit requirements, including the processes performed to ensure audit requests are addressed accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines.
* Perform accounting research and assist in the documentation of conclusions on behalf of the company.
* Oversee and provide direction to teams coding large enterprise-wide vendor invoices, coding, invoices received from corporate teams, and providing those invoices to Accounts Payable for processing.
* Oversee team priorities by balancing and supporting day-to-day execution, long-term process improvement, talent development, and strategic department priorities.

Characteristics of a successful Candidate:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or directly related field
* At least 10 years of corporate accounting, public accounting, internal audit or directly related experience.
* 3+ years managing teams, preferably managing managers with multiple direct reports.
* CPA or similar designation, or master's degree in related field preferred.
* Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in complex accounting, reporting, and process matters.
* Strong ability to prioritize competing deadlines and lead teams through high-volume close, reporting, and audit cycles.
* Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities, system changes, and cross-functional dependencies.
* Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify risks, evaluate alternatives, and escalate matters appropriately.
* Ability to communicate complex accounting or process matters clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
* Strong business acumen and ability to understand how accounting activities impact financial reporting, operational decisions, and stakeholder needs.
* Ability to influence without direct authority and build credibility with senior leaders, peers, managers, and cross-functional partners.
* Highly analytical in nature with a real eye for detail.
* Strong written and oral communication skills required.
* Structured and organized in their approach.
* Excellent financial and management reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications
* Oracle EBS experience preferred.
* A/E/C industry or similar professional services experience preferred.
* Preference given to local candidates.
