About This Role

The Post-Award Accountant is responsible for the financial management, compliance oversight, and lifecycle administration of sponsored projects and governmental grants for departments supported by the Administrative Support Center. This position serves as the primary point of contact between faculty, departmental staff, and central finance offices to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely management of awarded funds. Responsibilities include monitoring project expenditures against budget, preparing expenditure projection reports, providing financial data needed for grant amendment or extension requests, and tracking outstanding commitments to support accurate and timely closeout of all awards.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead all post-award accounting activities and prepare all financial analysis and reports for projects including account reconciliation, salary distribution, matching commitments, and sponsored research overhead distribution.
  • Facilitate payments to entities receiving subawards, project partners, vendors, and others as determined by project.
  • Track and report as necessary all equipment purchased with grant funds.
  • Review financial statements of project personnel including credit card statement payments and travel expense reports.
  • Reconcile grant accounts and resolve discrepancies prior to reporting and closeout.
  • Monitor budget to actuals, providing monthly and ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for ASC Budget Fiscal Coordinators, faculty and staff regarding grant questions related to projects, financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance on budgets, allowable costs, and best practices for grant management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, sponsor, and institutional regulations, including Uniform Guidance and university specific policies.

Worksite Description

This position is Hybrid eligible. This position is hybrid eligible; however, the first 90 days are required to be 100% on-site. After that period, hybrid eligibility may be granted based on individual performance, with a requirement of three days on-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and five years of relevant experience.
  • Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or Related Field
  • Experience in higher education business operations, with additional preference to those familiar with KSU policies, procedures and systems.
  • Excellent Written Communication and Customer Service Skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel and Word
