Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a GI Technician-West Palm Beach OR-Day Shift (40 Hours).
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for preparing the procedure room. Facilitates the availability of all equipment for both advanced and routine endoscopic procedures. Provides safe, therapeutic, age-specific care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Adheres to strict scope/equipment reprocessing guidelines. Assists with patient transport and cleaning duties necessary for the orderly functioning of the procedure rooms and unit. Assists with ensuring proper par levels of advanced and standard endoscopic supplies are maintained within budget. Job Responsibilities: Clinical
- Sets-up procedure rooms in an organized and timely manner ensuring supplies and equipment needed.
- Performs a variety of cleaning duties necessary to the orderly functioning of the procedure rooms and unit.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment including security of belongings.
- Provides direct patient care and demonstrates endoscopy skills intra-procedurally, e.g., direct abdominal pressure. Assists and supports team members accordingly.
Assist with maintaining patient flow to and from procedure rooms. Assists in escorting patients and specimens in a safe and efficient manner Care of Specimens Ensures proper specimens handling as per standard, e.g. properly identified with MD and RN prior to passing off the field. Regulatory, Quality & Performance Improvement - Complies with regulatory and quality policies governing safety standards and infection control. Monitors product supply usage waste reduction.
- Demonstrates Universal Precautions in the exposure & handling of hazardous waste
Adheres to strict scope reprocessing standards based on model of endoscope, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory safety standards. Initiates corrective action if breaks in protocol occur. Properly documents reprocessing protocol. Communication - Interacts with respect and in a positive manner.
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships. Develops effective working relationships with staff on unit and other departments.
- Gives a thorough oral and verbal report to RN Circulator, relief scrub person, leadership concerning count, equipment, instrumentation, or outcomes. Identifies variances with handoff/relief report.
- Communicates effectively.
Demonstrates role responsibilities and accountabilities as a team member. Safety - Accurately and promptly reports all changes in patient condition and pertinent patient information to the registered nurse.
- Individualizes patient safety initiatives, as appropriate, with the interdisciplinary team, e.g., counts, break in aseptic technique, positioning of patient, abdominal pressure.
- Confirms availability and functionality of needed supplies, implants, and equipment prior to patient entering OR; escalates to RN, leadership.
Ensures that all scopes are secured and stored in a safe manner. Development - Accepts responsibilities and demonstrates accountability for own actions.
- Utilizes resources to meet individual learning needs, e.g., Standards, Procedure Preferences. Guides staff to use clinical resources to enhance knowledge.
- Seeks opportunities for learning. Seizes opportunity for learning experiences for oneself or to be shared with others.
- Serves as a support and resource for other staff and students.
- Participates in the orientation of new staff to the scrub role intraoperatively.
- Takes initiative to and willingly provides assistance to other staff members, new staff and students
- Participates in orientation of employees to service, unit-based quality improvement measures and keeps current in Endoscopic and other related areas.
- Stocks procedure rooms with supplies, instruments/scopes, linen, and designated equipment. Notify the leadership, supply chain, sterile processing when supplies are low.
- Engages in self-assessment and participates in activities to promote own professional growth and development, takes initiative to seek out new clinical experiences, and communicates to leadership.
- Fulfills annual mandatory education program requirements. Obtains/Maintains Certification. Member of organization.
- Accepts constructive criticism and seeks out ways for a positive change in behavior
Performs other assigned duties Financial - Recognizes the importance of cost effectiveness in delivery of patient care, e.g., stocks room supplies.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a High School or GED. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) (As of 7/15/17). Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. SGNA) Associates Program (NewlyHired/transferred employees within first year of employment). SGNA Advanced Associates Program(NewlyHired/transferred employees within 1 year of employment). 1 - 2 years Nursing Assistant or equivalent. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking skills. Basic computer skills. Must have one of the following within 6 months of employment: (1) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), (2) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), or (3) Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER)..
Required Licenses: SGNA Advanced Assoc, SGNA Associates Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
