Job Title: OME Financial Analyst

Job Summary:

The OME Financial Analyst, housed within the School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education (OME), provides financial and business operations support to programs across OME. This position is responsible for a broad range of financial functions, including financial monitoring, analysis, reporting, reconciliation, budgeting, and supporting the effective management of program resources. The role offers an opportunity to apply and further develop strong financial and business skills while supporting the diverse operational needs of OME.

The successful candidate will have strong financial analysis, research, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the ability to analyze financial data, identify trends and discrepancies, and provide meaningful information to support sound business and financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis & Reporting (30%)

  • Provide financial analysis and reporting for assigned organizations and their accounts. The accounts may be general funds, auxiliaries, gifts and grants and exceed $40M annually.

  • Report upon data, including but not limited to ad-hoc financial data, and use Excel, Word and/or PowerPoint to collate, manipulate and convey data.

  • Use data analysis tools, including Excel, for data cleansing/manipulation, visualization, and the interpretation of data. Bonus for ability to build or edit PowerBI or keen interest in learning how to build PowerBI dashboards and reports.

  • Coordinate fiscal year end activities, including ensuring assigned organizations and their accounts are balanced and accurate by the end of the fiscal year.

  • Query systems and develop reports using financial data. Present upon the data to various stakeholders and ensure data presented is developed keeping the audience in mind and for ease of interpretation.

Financial Operations & Accounting (30%)

  • Perform accounting functions including account reconciliations, journal entries, funding distribution updates, and financial transaction review.

  • Independently evaluate accounts and determine actions required to balance accounts. Meet with stakeholders to review budget to actuals and to evaluate variances where needed. Partner with supervisor and stakeholders and ensure accounts are within budget.

  • Book and track accounts receivable where required.

  • Ensure financial transactions comply with university policies, accounting standards, and applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations.

  • Maintain strong internal controls and accurate financial records.

  • Support audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and implementing corrective actions as needed.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial operations and reporting.

Scholarship Administration (30%)

  • Calculate fund balances for donor accounts in preparation for the Office's annual scholarship cycle. The Office has over 100 donor accounts and a gift fund portfolio exceeding $10M.

  • Administer scholarship programs from award setup, notification and through disbursement of funds in accordance with university policies and donor intent.

  • Submit all scholarships annually through the university's scholarship submission form. Ensure accuracy of the submission and resolve discrepancies.

  • Respond to student and stakeholder inquiries sent to a shared inbox when questions arise regarding scholarship eligibility and disbursement.

  • Track scholarship budgets, expenditures, fund balances, recipient eligibility, and award utilization. Audit spend and ensure compliance.

  • Prepare scholarship reports for leadership, donors, and other stakeholders.

  • Maintain accurate scholarship records while ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations.

  • Perform regular maintenance on the platforms, workspaces, and tools related to scholarship administration, awarding, and financial accounting.

  • Meet with key stakeholders for ongoing opportunities to improve existing scholarship cycles and workflows.

  • Edit and update standard operating procedures and perform continuous quality improvement on trackers and workspaces.

Collaboration, Compliance & Special Projects (10%)

  • Serve as a financial resource for department leadership, faculty, and staff on budgeting, accounting, and scholarship processes.

  • Develop and document business procedures to improve operational efficiency and consistency.

  • Participate in strategic initiatives, system implementations, and continuous process improvement efforts.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the mission of Senior Business Operations and Financial Analyst.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of professional experience in which duties must have included accounting, finance, or analytics.

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Experience providing customer service to diverse populations including working effectively with senior leadership, management and staff both internally and externally.

  • Experience working in academia and/or a medical environment.

  • Experience working with University of Colorado systems such as CU-Data, and/or A2E.

  • Advanced experience in Excel including using pivot tables and v-lookups. Bonus for prior experience in creating or editing PowerBI or keen interest in learning PowerBI.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $58,175-$77,954.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
