THE POSITION

The Department of Health (DOH) Bureau of Epidemiology, Division of Surveillance is seeking a motivated undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a Viral Hepatitis Intern. This internship offers meaningful experience in statewide surveillance that makes a real difference for vulnerable populations. Your efforts will support pediatric care, identify barriers, and promote best practices throughout the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship supports statewide surveillance and follow-up activities for perinatal hepatitis C. It plays a key role in helping infants receive proper testing and care while contributing to broader prevention efforts. As a Viral Hepatitis Intern, you will perform the following duties:
- Perinatal Outreach: Conduct outreach to pediatric offices to identify infants exposed to hepatitis C at birth
- Care Linkage: Provide pediatric practices with resources and information to support proper diagnosis and care
- Health Records: Record health information and track linkage to care activities within designated databases
- Surveillance Support: Contribute to viral hepatitis surveillance and prevention initiatives as assigned
- Regional Data: Assist in gathering regional linkage to care information and insurance coverage data
- Database Tasks: Support database management and data entry

- Part-time internship, Fall 2026 to approximately Fall 2027
- Flex schedule with a minimum of 20 hours per week
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree program or higher.
- Good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
