Director, Future of Work & Leadership Innovation

University of California - San Francisco
$133,700-$313,300
United States, California, San Francisco
654 Minnesota Street (Show on map)
Sep 23, 2026

This role establishes and scales UCSF's Future of Work & Leadership Innovation capability using a phased strategy: prototype within OE, expand across Human Resources, and ultimately scale across UCSF Health and UCSF Campus. The Director applies an AI innovation and product mindset to leadership and OE work, designing AI-enabled workflows, digital assistants, practical tools, and future-state experiences that improve effectiveness while responsibly accelerating enterprise AI adoption. The Director also serves as a horizontal enablement partner across OE, combining the domain strategy and process expertise of other pillars with deep AI, design, co-design, and experimentation capability.

Success is reflected in a disciplined pipeline of high-value human-AI experiments tied to real organizational needs; leaders and employees actively participating in co-design; evidence being used to distinguish promising ideas from those that should be redesigned or stopped; and successful approaches being translated into practical, reusable solutions that domain teams can own and scale. Over time, the Lab should strengthen leadership capacity and human judgment, improve work and employee experiences, build AI fluency across OE, and create credible patterns for how humans and AI agents can work together effectively and responsibly.

The capability must produce approaches that are usable across UCSF's diverse workforce and operating contexts, including frontline, represented, highly regulated, clinical, technical, academic, research, and professional work. Success therefore requires innovation that improves work without compromising patient care, safety, quality, equity, human judgment, or the expertise on which UCSF's mission depends.

Full-time, one year contract role.
