Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II

Duration: 3+ Months

Location: 50 Medical Park Dr E, Birmingham, AL 35235

Schedule: Monday-Friday, with rotating weekends

Shift: 4O10, 1st Shift

Required Experience: Epic Hyperspace Experience


Key Responsibilities

  • Culture Plate Reading
  • Microbiology Set-Ups
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Assist with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field, or meet applicable local regulatory (CLIA and state) requirements.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
  • State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on applicable state requirements.
  • ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required based on the position requirements.
  • Prior Epic Hyperspace experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
