Senior Product Designer - AI Learning Product

This is a 12-week, part-time (10-15 hours/week), fully remote contract role. Candidates must be able to collaborate consistently during West Coast working hours.

Summary

Our client is seeking a Senior Product Designer to help shape an early-stage, AI-powered learning product. This person will use design as a strategic tool to explore emerging product ideas, clarify decisions, and transform promising concepts into intuitive, elegant, high-quality user experiences.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity and energized by zero-to-one product work. They bring exceptional UX, UI, interaction, and visual-design craft, alongside strong product thinking and the ability to independently create momentum as requirements, priorities, and product direction evolve.

Job Description

In this role, you will shape meaningful components of an emerging AI-powered learning experience, from early product concepts through implementation-ready design.

You'll partner with design leadership, product stakeholders, engineering, and learning-science collaborators to advance the product vision. This includes translating early ideas, user needs, and experience principles into clear product explorations; designing end-to-end user journeys; and developing user flows, interaction models, prototypes, and polished interface design.

You will also explore multiple creative approaches to complex product challenges, use rapid prototypes to communicate interaction behavior and answer product questions, and help simplify sophisticated concepts into experiences that feel natural, clear, and rewarding for users. You will establish thoughtful interaction patterns, reusable foundations, and scalable design-system thinking as the product evolves, supporting the product team's overall success and user experience.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Approximately 5+ years of product design experience, with portfolio quality, ownership, and design thinking prioritized over a strict number of years.

  • Passion for designing thoughtful, human-centered digital products, particularly products that simplify complex ideas and create engaging experiences.

  • Proficient in UX, UI, interaction design, visual design, user flows, prototyping, and high-fidelity interface design.

  • Familiar with early-stage product development, iterative design practices, rapid prototyping, scalable design systems, and user-centered research methodologies.

  • Skilled in collaborating with design leadership, product stakeholders, engineering teams, and subject-matter experts.

  • Able to work independently, bring structure to loosely defined challenges, and manage multiple explorations and priorities simultaneously.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements, incomplete information, evolving product direction, and fast-moving stakeholder needs.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail, quality, and polish.

  • Brings a collaborative, low-ego approach while confidently advocating for strong design ideas and experience principles.

  • Demonstrates an ability to generate, compare, and communicate multiple design directions before advancing the strongest solution.

  • Uses prototyping as a tool for exploration, alignment, interaction definition, and testing assumptions-not only final presentation.

  • Has strong judgment around when to refine details and when to move quickly to maintain momentum.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, visual communication, digital media, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Background in product design, UX/UI design, interaction design, visual design, digital experiences, or related disciplines.

  • Experience designing consumer-facing digital products, learning products, education technology, or products where engagement, motivation, comprehension, and progression are central to the user experience is preferred.

  • Experience with AI-powered products, especially products that make emerging technology understandable, useful, and trustworthy, is preferred.

  • Experience working on early-stage, zero-to-one, or evolving product teams is strongly preferred.

  • A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual and interaction craft, clear product thinking, end-to-end ownership, and examples of helping define what should be built, not solely designing final interfaces, is required.

The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $95-$103per hour.

This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length-of-service and hours requirements.
