2027 Summer Intern - Operations Analytics

MISO
22.00
United States, Indiana, Carmel
720 City Center Drive (Show on map)
Sep 08, 2026
Description

What You'll Do:

As our Operations Analytics Intern, you'll contribute to the Operations Management Balancing and Interchange's (OMBI) mission of supporting 24/7 grid operators by building and refining scheduling and workforce analytics - helping Control Room leadership stay ahead of scheduling conflicts, turnaround risks, and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) order violations.

You'll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Dashboarding and reporting tools such as Power BI and Excel to surface scheduling risks for Control Room leadership
  • Data analysis using SQL and Python to identify scheduling and workforce trends
  • Real-world projects such as system migrations, scenario-based training design, or scheduling health indicators that feed into MISO's Monthly Ops Metrics Review

A Great Day in This Role Means:

You'll typically start your day reviewing overnight scheduling data and checking in with the team on any open questions from the prior shift. From there, you might pull data in SQL, update a Power BI view, or sit in on a working session with schedulers to understand a recurring pain point before you build a fix for it. Most days include some mix of independent analysis and direct conversation with the people who will actually use what you build.

You'll know you're making an impact when your work holds up under real use - when a tool you built keeps getting opened, a process you streamlined keeps getting followed, or a colleague asks you to extend something you made to cover a new use case.

This is a Unique Opportunity Because:

This team sits at the center of MISO's round-the-clock grid operations, supporting the scheduling and workforce needs of operators who keep the grid running 24/7. You'll get direct visibility into how your analysis shapes real decisions for Control Room leadership, giving you a front-row seat to how data and analytics support reliability at scale.

What You'll Be Proud to Share:

  • Presented findings directly to Control Room leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, building confidence speaking to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Gained hands-on experience with data analytics, process improvement, and workflow design in a real 24/7 operations environment.
  • Contributed scheduling health indicators that fed directly into MISO's Monthly Ops Metrics Review.
