VTG seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer to design, develop, maintain, integrate, and enhance complex software systems. This role supports software environments involving processing-intensive analytics, large-scale datasets, real-time systems, novel algorithm development, and business management information systems.

What will you do?

  • Analyze user and system requirements to derive software design, functional, and performance requirements.
  • Design, develop, code, and modify software systems and applications.
  • Develop new software capabilities and enhance existing software with new features.
  • Debug existing software, identify root causes, and correct defects.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
  • Develop and implement complex algorithms that meet system performance and functional requirements.
  • Design and implement algorithms operating under strict timing, system resource, and interface constraints.
  • Develop simple and complex queries and interfaces for databases and data repositories.
  • Analyze system performance standards, system flows, data usage, work processes, and problem areas to develop effective software solutions.
  • Modify software to correct errors, support new hardware, and improve performance.
  • Design and develop software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to evaluate design outcomes and performance.
  • Review and test software components to ensure compliance with design and system requirements.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for software components and document test results.
  • Resolve software problem reports and support troubleshooting throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Write, maintain, and review software and system documentation.
  • Provide recommendations for improving software development processes and documentation standards.
  • Implement software development and documentation process improvements.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements, interfaces, performance requirements, capabilities, and technical constraints.
  • Provide input into system and software design decisions, including hardware/software tradeoffs, software reuse, and COTS/GOTS solutions.
  • Coordinate software system installations and monitor system/equipment performance to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Perform quality control reviews of software products and team deliverables.
  • Serve as a technical/team lead as appropriate to the software development methodology being utilized.
  • Oversee software development activities and ensure work is completed in accordance with established development processes and project constraints.
  • Participate in Agile/Sprint-based software development activities.

Do you have what it takes?

  • TS/SCI with Poly required
  • 20 years of Software Engineering experience supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Four additional years of Software Engineering experience on projects involving similar software processes may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting complex software systems.
  • Experience analyzing user and system requirements and translating them into software design and performance requirements.
  • Experience developing and integrating software within complex systems and operating environments.
  • Experience with software testing, debugging, defect resolution, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with software development and design methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical and software documentation.
  • Experience working individually as well as within multidisciplinary software development teams.

VTG's estimated starting pay range is $220K - $285K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
