Position SummaryAssistant Professor based in the Sculpture & Expanded Practice Area. Probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision. 1.0 FTE. The Department of Art: Studio, History, and Education in the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico seeks a sculptor to join the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued development and leadership of the area through innovative approaches to sculpture and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will also contribute to our shared commitment to engaging the rich and varied cultures and communities of New Mexico, while demonstrating a local and global contemporary approach to sculptural practice and pedagogy. Teaching will primarily include undergraduate and graduate studio courses within the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area. The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop and teach special topics courses that reflect their area of expertise and contemporary practice. The teaching load is two courses per semester (2/2). In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be expected to maintain an active research and creative practice, serve on undergraduate and graduate thesis committees, participate in curriculum development within the Sculpture & Expanded Practice area, and contribute service to the Department, College, and University. Salary: $66,000 Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: MFA or equivalent degree in Studio Art or a related field by the time of appointment. Two years of cumulative post-graduate, college-level or professional-level teaching experience as an instructor of record. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities. Three or more years of cumulative post-graduate, college-level or professional-level teaching experience as an instructor of record. Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in creating art and supporting students in two or more of the following areas: fiber sculpture, wood, metal, installation art, moldmaking and casting, social sculpture, and digital, to analog, and/or expanded practices.
