Human Factors and Technology Adoption Intern - Summer 2027

Battelle Energy Alliance
United States, Idaho, Idaho Falls
2525 Fremont Avenue (Show on map)
Sep 28, 2026

Posting description

In this internship you will support workforce adoption of AI and other technological innovations within the nuclear industry, enabling stakeholders to fully realize their transformative potential.

The purpose is to determine the association between innovation readiness and technology adoption. Organizational readiness, and specifically workforce resistance to change has been identified as one of the largest barriers to technology adoption in the plants. The innovation readiness framework developed by this group was previously applied to a site, and several recommendations were generated to enhance innovation adoption. This research project will focus on an evaluation of technology adoption 6-12 months post assessment. Using the innovation readiness framework, this task will determine the extent to which workforce culture contributes to technology adoption dynamics, including AI.

The following activities will be performed:

  • Identify innovation culture factors that influence the speed and depth of technology adoption
  • Develop indicators of adoption disengagement that serve as early intervention targets, including AI-specific workforce signals.
  • Establish tailored adoption recommendations for site leadership.
