Overview

Initiates, plans, organizes and implements strategies to solicit funding from foundations, corporations and other major grant sources designed to help department achieve organization goals. Works under general supervision.

What You Will Do

  • Initiates, plans and implements creative/innovative approaches (e.g. planning site visits) to solicit/attract foundations and corporations to funding opportunities at VNS Health; identifies/matches VNS Health projects and programs in need of funding with funder interests; and identifies/solicits key volunteers and/or staff as appropriate in funding request meetings.
  • Researches, develops and writes fundraising materials including grant proposals, summary reports (e.g., prospective funding sources) and other materials for prospective and existing funding sources.
  • Identifies, cultivates and maintains relationships with potential and existing donors through continuous communications via phone, e-mail, and in-person meetings. Focuses on key referrals as prospects.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates meetings with funders, prospective funders and/or VNS Health staff. Prepares and distributes meeting materials (e.g., background and profile material on the funder and target goals for such meetings).
  • Manages database of existing and prospective foundation and corporation grants and selected individual donors and prospects.
  • Ensures data is accurate and updated, as needed.
  • Develops/facilitates regular communication (e.g., presentations, meetings, phone-calls, reports and memos) with board members, development committee, program and operational staff and key volunteers for the purpose of developing, implementing and reporting fund raising strategies.
  • Designs and develops corporate membership/sponsorship programs.
  • Continually reviews/assesses programs and recommends changes as appropriate. Lead implementation of approved changes.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing, Social Sciences, Education or other related discipline required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in foundation or grant proposal writing and donor relations, in a not-for-profit environment required
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Proficient with personal computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and FC Search required
  • Strong understanding of and contacts within NY Metropolitan fund-raising community required
  • Experience using Raiser's Edge software preferred


Pay Range

USD $109,900.00 - USD $146,500.00 /Yr.
