Pediatric Medical Genetics Advanced Practice Provider Job Location Children's Health Center/Duke Hospital Job Summary Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician(s) in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. The APP provides medical care for pediatric and adult patients in the clinics of the Duke Division of Medical Genetics in collaboration with physician members of the division's clinical practice group. The APP will work with the team in order to evaluate and provide ongoing treatment to patients who present with genetic and metabolic disorders. Job Duties & Responsibilities Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record, as well as any pertinent research databases; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; review and interpret lab results and provide plan for follow up of abnormal results; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. PA will have a clinic schedule of 4 outpatient sessions a week and will provide follow up care for the inpatient Genetics consult service. Provider will also provide coverage, including ordering appropriate medications and submitting infusion treatment plans, patients receiving infusions in outpatient settings (Valvano Day Hospital in the Children's Health Center) and will respond in case of infusion related reactions. Job Eligibility Requirements *Education* Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. *Certification* BLS required. *License* Nurse Practitioners:Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment. Physician Assistants:Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. *Experience* 1+ years of APP experience preferred, but will consider new grads with appropriate degree.
