Senior AI Engineer

Precise Software Solutions Inc. is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to provide hands-on, senior-level engineering for secure AI-enabled applications for the U.S. Government. You will add expert capacity during peak demand - major releases, new AI use cases, model retraining, and security testing. Working with the core engineering team and following the architecture standards, you will build and tune LLM, RAG, and agentic solutions, lead adversarial testing before releases, and serve as an escalation resource for production AI issues.

• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
• Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and be able to work on-site 3x a week at DC Government offices.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI (Tier 1) background investigation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, integrate, and deploy AI-enabled applications and services, including LLM integrations, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and agentic workflows.
• Implement model evaluation, hallucination reduction, retrieval quality tuning, and performance optimization, and provide side-by-side model comparisons for major model or retrieval changes.
• Lead AI-specific security and adversarial testing (prompt injection, jailbreak, data poisoning, unsafe output) before releases, and document and mitigate findings.
• Enforce environment promotion controls (DEV to PROD), including security scans, testing, and TEVV gates.
• Support MLOps workflows, including model versioning, drift detection, retraining, and release documentation.
• Serve as a Tier 2/Tier 3 escalation resource for production AI issues, and support incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to engineering deliverables such as RAG pipeline designs, AI system test plans, adversarial testing reports, SBOMs, and environment configuration baselines.
• Conduct code and prompt reviews and mentor developers, applying the architecture standards set by the Lead AI Engineer.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, or a related technical discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience. Three additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering, AI-enabled application development, data engineering, cloud engineering, or software engineering, including direct development, testing, and operational support of AI-enabled systems.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLM integration, RAG, model evaluation, agentic AI, or production AI systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing AI-enabled applications, APIs, services, and automation.
• Experience designing and deploying RAG pipelines, semantic retrieval, vector databases, cloud-based AI services, and AI workflow orchestration.
• Experience conducting AI-specific adversarial testing (prompt injection, jailbreak, data poisoning) and documenting mitigations.
• Experience working in FedRAMP-authorized environments and applying the FISMA Moderate NIST SP 800-53 control baseline.
• Experience developing AI-enabled user interfaces that conform to Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 A and AA, and supporting release management and operations.
• At least one current Generative AI or Machine Learning certification (e.g., Microsoft Azure AI, AWS Generative AI or Machine Learning, Google Cloud, Databricks Generative AI Engineer, NVIDIA Generative AI, or CAIP), with verifiable evidence.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
• Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and be able to work on-site at Government offices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field and 7+ years of experience, including support of federal agency programs.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel), Model Context Protocol (MCP), and open-weight model serving (e.g., vLLM, TGI).
• Experience with multimodal AI (document layout, OCR/vision, audio) and structured evaluation.
• Experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation and vulnerability remediation.
• An active NACI (Tier 1) or prior federal background investigation.
