Summary
MSOE invites applications for a full-time Director of Sports Medicine to join our Athletics department! The Director of Sports Medicine is responsible for coordinating and administering a comprehensive, preventative, and rehabilitative health care program for all intercollegiate teams. They are to ensure that our athletes and coaches follow all NCAA requirements while providing the care to help our athletes perform to their best. This does include health and mental health outside of medicine to include nutrition, sleep and lifestyle decision making.

Essential Job Functions
  • Administer a quality co-ed Sports Medicine program for intercollegiate sports.
  • Provide care to all student-athletes including, but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment of injuries, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes and athletics related health care administration, in consultation with and under the supervision of the Team Physician and other qualified medical personnel.
  • Supervise and schedule sports medicine staff and student workers.
  • Manage the athletic training room during regular office hours, referring injuries to the appropriate medical facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate athletic injury care records and reports as required following all NCAA, HIPPA and NATA guidelines.
  • Monitor pre-existing health conditions of student-athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Provide medical services during games and practices, home and away, throughout the regular school year and vacation periods whenever necessary.
  • Responsible for communicating to student-athletes and coaches the Department's health insurance policies.
  • Provide general athletic training room services.
  • Other related administrative and committee duties as assigned.
  • Manage, organize, coordinate, and supervisor athletic training room and all sports medicine operations for NCAA Division III athletics program.
  • Provide care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses to student athletes in all sports.
  • Manage professional relationship with team physician and physician group.
  • Coordinate physician coverage for the athletic training room and event coverage
  • Responsible for the implementation of electronic medical records database
  • Responsible for the acquisition of full-time contracted Athletic Trainer through our team physicians' medical group
  • Direct supervisor for small team of certified athletic trainers
  • Serve as a Preceptor for students from local accredited athletic training education programs.

  • Represent the university at conference meetings.
  • Serve on university established committees.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of Athletic Training experience in collegiate sports
  • NATA BOC certified
  • Actively licensed in the State of Wisconsin as an Athletic Trainer; would consider if licensed in another state and eligible for license transfer to WI
  • Professional Rescuer CPR certified
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and be eligible to drive vehicles per MSOE driving policy

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
Physical Demands
This job requires the ability to lift heavy items and have functional use of all four extremities. Requires lifting of injured athletes and equipment, manual dexterity, and first responder skills. Must be in good physical condition.

Work Environment
Requires working in clinic atmosphere, as well as some evenings, weekends, exposure to weather, and occasional travel. Must have a flexible schedule and be able to use basic Microsoft office computer software.
