DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports residents by providing non-professional nursing care and helping maintain a comfortable and safe living space. The role focuses on assisting with daily activities, observing resident needs, and supporting the work of licensed nursing staff. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Care Participation: Assist with resident plans of care by participating in team meetings, observing changes, answering call bells, and supporting daily care needs
  • Daily Activities: Support residents with bathing, toileting, grooming, ambulating, feeding, and participating in restorative programs as outlined in their care plans
  • Safety Support: Apply safety devices, gather vital sign information, and ensure residents are positioned and transported safely
  • Room Care: Change linens, assist with cleanliness and organization, and help maintain a homelike environment
  • Supply Management: Restock resident supplies, deliver needed items, and collect or dispose of laundry, waste, and specimens
  • Safety Reporting: Identify hazards, monitor exit doors, report unsafe conditions, and support safety procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (8 hours per day; 40 hours per week)
  • Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends.
    • 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM)
    • 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
