Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor of Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism in the School of Natural Resources, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri (MU). Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a 9-month ranked, non-tenure track academic appointment. Start date: 8/1/2027or as negotiated. Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses primarily within sport management curriculum of the Parks, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism (PRST) program. Primary responsibilities will include organizing and teaching four courses per semester in both spring and fall semesters (a total of eight courses per year). Teaching assignments will be based on program needs and the candidate's expertise and may include courses in areas such as sport governance, coaching, legal aspects of sport, contemporary issues in sport, and foundations of sport, as well as other areas within the sport management curriculum. The successful candidate will also advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and may have opportunities to develop new courses related to their areas of expertise. As part of an interdisciplinary degree program, the successful candidate should be able to recognize and draw connections among sport management, parks, recreation and tourism and incorporate these connections into their teaching and student engagement. This position will contribute to a cohesive curriculum while strengthening instruction in sport management. Additional responsibilities include service on the School of Natural Resources committees or assisting with other activities as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sport Management or a closely related discipline (ABD considered). Candidates will be evaluated on: Highest degree earned. Experience in teaching (residential and/or online), and/or management experience in the parks, recreation, sport, and tourism industry. The area of expertise should complement existing institutional strengths in parks, recreation, sport, and tourism. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding teaching credentials, strong interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative approach to program development and classroom instruction. Preferred qualifications include an impactful teaching record, hands-on learning experiences, experience in current education technologies, and/or connections to the Parks, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism industries.
