JOB SUMMARY

The Training Leader is responsible for leading the site's training and workforce development strategy to ensure employees possess the skills, knowledge, and certifications required to operate safely, efficiently, and effectively. This role partners with Operations, EHS, Quality, Engineering, and Human Resources teams to develop and deliver training programs that support production goals, compliance requirements, quality standards, and employee career development.

The Training Leader plays a critical role in building a skilled workforce through structured onboarding, technical skills development, leadership training, qualification programs, and continuous improvement initiatives

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Training & Workforce Development

  • Develop and implement the site's annual training strategy aligned with business and operational objectives.
  • Supervise training department coordinators directly and training instructors indirectly
  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps across production, maintenance, quality, engineering, and support functions.
  • Create and maintain training matrices, certification requirements, and employee qualification records.
  • Monitor and ensure hourly employees are completing required training within established timeframe.
  • Establish career development pathways for hourly employees.
  • Support workforce planning initiatives by identifying future skill requirements.

New Employee Onboarding

  • Lead and continuously improve the site onboarding process for new hires.
  • Develop structured onboarding programs that accelerate employee productivity and engagement.
  • Coordinate orientation activities, plant introductions, and job-specific training requirements.
  • Monitor onboarding metrics and new hire effectiveness.

Technical & Operational Training

  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering leaders to develop technical training programs.
  • Support certification and qualification processes for production equipment and critical manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure employees are trained on standard work, manufacturing procedures, quality requirements, and process controls.
  • Coordinate training related to new equipment, technology implementations, and process improvements.

Safety & Compliance Training

  • Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) teams to ensure compliance with all required safety training programs.
  • Maintain records and documentation required for audits, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure completion of mandatory training including:
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Hazard Communication
  • Confined Space
  • Powered Industrial Vehicles
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Emergency Response Procedures
  • Environmental Compliance Requirements

Learning Management & Documentation

  • Administer the site's Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Track and report training completion, certifications, qualification status, and compliance metrics.
  • Maintain training documentation in accordance with company quality systems and record retention requirements.
  • Develop and manage digital and instructor-led training materials.

Leadership & Employee Development

  • Facilitate leadership development programs for supervisors, team leaders, and emerging leaders.
  • Coach managers on employee development, skills progression, and succession planning.
  • Support employee development programs that improve retention and internal mobility.

Continuous Improvement

  • Utilize operational and training metrics to improve workforce capability and training effectiveness.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives through targeted training programs.
  • Analyze training outcomes and implement corrective actions to improve performance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience facilitating technical and operational training programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management Systems.
  • S/he must be thoroughly knowledgeable of all processes, procedures and instructions that are applicable. It is expected that the supervisor act as a role model and as an agent of the Company.
  • An excellent team player with strong people skills; able to build relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Basic team-building and fundamental leadership skills
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal (logical and organized), written, listening and presentation to all levels in the Company
  • Proven ability to facilitate small to medium-size groups
  • Ability to positively motivate employees

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Business, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Training, Learning & Development, Workforce Development, or Human Resources within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Experience within industrial manufacturing, power generation, energy, aerospace, automotive, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • CPTD, ATD, SHRM, PHR, Six Sigma, Lean, or related professional certifications.
  • Experience supporting unionized workforces.
  • Knowledge of ISO, quality management systems, and manufacturing compliance requirements.
  • Experience with skills matrices, qualification systems, and workforce capability development

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods.

Working Conditions

Primarily based within a manufacturing facility with regular interaction on the production floor.

Must be able to conduct classroom, practical, and hands-on training in industrial environments.

Ability to travel occasionally between facilities.

May require personal protective equipment (PPE) and exposure to manufacturing environments.
