About the Job

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure track, faculty position in the area of Accounting at the Instructor/Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2027.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate core and elective courses. The teaching load is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the University of Minnesota Board of Regents and the University Education Association (UEA) and is currently five sections, or 15 credits, per academic year for research-active faculty. LSBE courses are typically delivered in person, and the School values opportunities for faculty to engage with industry through teaching, research, and applied projects.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high-quality, impactful research program that produces scholarship publishable in peer-reviewed journals and contributes meaningfully to the discipline, professional practice, and/or society.

Service responsibilities will include advising undergraduate students, supporting a student organization, and contributing to the work of the department, School, University, community, and relevant professional organizations. As a place-based institution, LSBE values faculty presence on campus and expects faculty to participate actively and in person in the academic and collegial life of the School.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Candidates must be ABD (with their doctoral dissertation defended by December 1, 2027) from an accredited university with a curricular emphasis in the field of Accounting, or closely related field. The applicant must have completed a minimum of two years in residency during their program.
  2. Candidates must have experience as instructor or teaching assistant of at least one college level course.
  3. Effective communication skills.
  4. Strong evidence of potential for scholarship. The applicant must demonstrate empirical research skills appropriate for, and commitment to, developing a research stream in the field of Accounting.

Preferred:

  1. PhD or DBA from a school/college accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, or AMBA, with a curricular emphasis in the field of Accounting.
  2. Experience independently teaching multiple elective courses in Accounting or closely related fields, at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  3. Experience or interest in teaching and / or research in the areas of Auditing, Assurance or Forensic Accounting.
  4. Full-time high level industry work experience. High level experience is defined as holding a position with significant operational decision-making and/or managerial oversight authority.
  5. Experience teaching courses with community embedded student projects.
  6. Published in peer-reviewed journals in the Accounting area.
  7. Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or other relevant certifications.
  8. Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to effectively fulfill service responsibilities to students, colleagues, the department, school, campus, and community.
  9. Demonstrated ability to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) related topics and/or tools in teaching that enhance discipline specific industry applications.

ABOUT LSBE:

The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) is AACSB-International accredited and housed in a state-of-the-art building. Approximately 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in the school's programs. There are approximately 50 full-time faculty members in four academic departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics and Health Care Management, Management Studies, and Marketing. The School offers a Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and MBA degrees. Regional outreach is accomplished primarily through the Bureau of Business and Economic Research activities. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $130,000 - $140,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
