JOB TITLE: Manager Long-Term Transmission Planning
REQUISITION: STR0037
DEPARTMENT: Transmission Planning - Emergency Response Center
LOCATION: Kansas City, MO
PAY RANGE: $124,500 - $166,000 (Min-Mid)

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This leadership role is critical to Evergy's long-term success. The Manager Long-Term Transmission Planning will shape the transmission strategy, investment priorities, and technical decisions needed to maintain a safe, reliable, resilient, and cost-effective electric system as customer needs, generation resources, technology, and regulatory requirements evolve. The position leads a team of engineers responsible for planning transmission system facilities, providing operations support, and performing system impact studies across long-term planning horizons. The manager assists in the development of the transmission and substation capital budget by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing projects; ensures studies support compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards; oversees power-flow, dynamic, and short-circuit modeling in PSS/E; directs load-addition studies; and ensures timely, high-quality responses to Southwest Power Pool (SPP), internal and external customers, and regulatory filing needs. The successful candidate will translate complex technical analysis into clear recommendations, align stakeholders around priorities, anticipate emerging risks and opportunities, and drive accountable execution from planning through completion. This leader is also responsible for the performance, capability, succession, and professional development of the long-term transmission planning team and must ensure compliance with all safety rules and procedures.

Strategic Importance of the Role:
Decisions made by this team influence system reliability, regulatory compliance, capital deployment, customer service, and the company's ability to adapt to future load growth and changes in the resource mix. The manager must balance near-term operational needs with long-range system requirements and create a disciplined planning organization that consistently delivers credible analysis, timely decisions, and executable plans.

Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in engineering, transmission planning, or operations experience is required. Candidates should also have 5 years of leadership experience or previous supervisory (direct and/or indirect) experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of transmission planning and power systems, with the judgment to evaluate, select, and apply appropriate engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing is required. Experience with power-system simulation software, preferably PSS/E, is preferred, and the candidate must be capable of learning and effectively using transmission-planning applications. A working knowledge of the technical and regulatory environment, including NERC Reliability Standards and SPP Criteria, is preferred. The role requires demonstrated ability to lead people and complex, cross-functional work from initial planning through successful completion. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent organization and time management, including the ability to establish priorities, manage competing deadlines, maintain attention to detail, and ensure commitments are completed on time. Exceptional written and oral communication is required, including the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly, tailor messages to technical and nontechnical audiences, build alignment, and communicate decisions, risks, and recommendations with confidence. The candidate must also demonstrate strong execution: converting strategy and analysis into clear work plans, establishing ownership and milestones, monitoring progress, removing barriers, escalating issues appropriately, and delivering accurate, high-quality results. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, coaching, and stakeholder-management skills are essential. The candidate must show initiative, sound judgment, accountability, adaptability, and a consistent focus on safety, reliability, customer needs, and the company's long-term objectives.

Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing:
Must have a valid driver's license. EITs or PEs are preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions:
Normal working office environment. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
