THE ROLE

Providence is a ~$26B health system with 53 acute care hospitals and several thousand non-acute delivery locations. This position is fundamentally responsible for the Sourcing of all supply, services and equipment needs at the lowest cost while supporting high quality patient care across all acute and non-acute locations. This position will be held accountable for the Sourcing, Contracting, Supplier Management and External Spend Management of over $5B in external spend. Position also requires proven leadership in successfully guiding multiple teams and skillfully delegating work across those groups. Sourcing, contracting, Medical, Non-medical, Services, IT, and medical equipment is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • This position is to be fundamentally responsible for the overall spend management for the Providence external spend exceeding $5B. This includes ensuring all Sourcing, Contracting, Vendor Management, Regulatory, Legal, and Accreditation requirements for all Providence acute and non-acute locations. Position is accountable for developing strategies, policies and delivering several key System Level performance measures including Annual External Spend savings targets, ESG targets on Vendor emissions supplier diversity metrics; Serves as the primary Lead for clinical and Operational Executive leadership on all matters/issues related to Sourcing, Products, Services, Equipment and Vendors. As a member of the REH Executive Team, this position will collaborate closely with the REH Logistics Operations, P2P, Business Intelligence and other internal REH functions in providing comprehensive Supply Chain services. Position is also responsible for partnering with internal and external peers/teams to develop and deploy strategic plans aimed at improving operating performance year over year and achieving a state of "Modernization" in concert with the REH Strategic Plan and Providence goals.

  • Develop and maintain processes, policies, procedures, tools and templates to ensure contracting, risk, legal and accreditation compliance, best practices are practiced consistently.
  • Effectively partner within a matrixed organization and influence model to reduce clinical product variation; work with Nursing and MD leadership and the clinical institutes to achieve PSJH quality and cost related goals. Full accountability for the annual REH savings target commitment to the System and Division CFOs ranging from $75m - $100m+ annually.
  • Develop and lead the Sourcing, vendor management, contract execution and implementation for over $5B in PSJH supply, services and equipment spend. Develop and maintain processes, policies, procedures, tools, and templates to ensure contracting, risk and legal compliance, best practices are practiced consistently.
  • Full accountability for Souring and Contracting related staffing plans and a $7M+ budget; optimize cost to serve while achieving operational performance targets. Direct responsibility for the training, and cohesive engagement and development of 80+ Providence staff, plus any external dedicated Vizient and Medline.
  • Design and develop a fully functioning Sourcing operations dashboard with multi-level metrics that measure performance and inform Executive leadership on progress of key performance indicators.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree - Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management/Research, Inventory Management, Engineering, Operations Management or other related field; or equivalent educ/experience
  • Master's Degree - Business or another relevant field (preferred)
  • More than 10 years of experience leading directors, or managers of other managers in large scale, multi-state healthcare industry including direct ownership of Strategic Sourcing, Contracting, RFPs, and Contract negotiation
  • More than 10 years of proven experience with Clinical Executives and Department Heads in Product selection, Sourcing, Contracting and Vendor (external) distribution processes
  • More than 10 years of proven experience in National level GPO relations and Strategy with demonstrated ability to maximize the value of the GPO relationship
  • 2 years of experience with ERP Systems in the Cloud environment, especially the various Sourcing, Contracting and pricing elements (preferred)
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem identification and resolution
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated planning and project oversight/management skills
  • Demonstrates effective customer service skills
  • Ability to create, understand, and implement budgetary operating model
  • Must have proven ability to interact at, communicate to, and influence all levels of an organization
  • Must develop relationships with key operational leaders in the supported ministries and Regions/Divisions to be successful
  • Must understand the Sourcing, contracting a pricing software capabilities of the ERP system(s), as well as the capabilities of available BI tools and other business platforms and solutions
  • Must develop standardized systems that can be carried out and maintained by site-based leadership to be successful
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to lead successful teams of individuals, motivate project participants, and communicate effectively at all levels across the enterprise
  • Outstanding written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts through diplomatic facilitation, sound negotiation skills and consensus building techniques
  • Able to rapidly summarize complex information and present to others
  • Proficiency with the MS-Office suite of products, Outlook and Excel
  • Requires regional travel on a consistent basis, which may include both day and overnight stays
  • Position may be required to travel on short notice to meet business needs and or cover open positions
  • Able to work across departments, such as HR, Legal, Finance to facilitate change and growth within Resource, Engineering, and Hospitality.
