About the Position The Sheriff Delivery Driver operates specially equipped heavy commercial vehicles in the distribution of food, laundry, canteen items, supplies, library materials, housekeeping items and salvage to and from all Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) facilities. Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience driving commercial trucks weighing in excess of 26,001 pounds.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) issued by the State of Arizona, or have the ability to obtain one by the time of hire.
- Endorsements may be required for some job assignments.
- Must have clean driving record with no citations in the past five (5) years.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.
Maricopa County is required by state and federal regulations to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver's license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but which may not specifically require a valid CDL. Essential Job Tasks The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.
- Operates heavy commercial vehicles, forklifts and other equipment.
- Loads and unloads vehicles.
- Inspects and pre-trips vehicles.
- Operates two-way radios.
- Directs and supervises working inmates when appropriate.
- Plans loads.
- Plans and schedules trips for pick-up/delivery.
- Performs additional duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Washes and sanitizes the interior of trailers.
- Be present at the work site to perform tasks as scheduled/assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions Work occurs primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity of hands and body to operate equipment as well as managing frequent interruptions, time pressures, and high work volumes. Job includes direction and supervision of working inmates when appropriate. Responsibilities require extreme attention to safety, concentration, accuracy, and ethical conduct.
