The Opportunity:

The Electrical Engineer II serves the University of Central Florida by acting as the subject matter expert for all Facilities and Business office projects involving electrical systems generation, distribution, electrical components, and projects. These systems include, but are not limited to, energy generation, distribution, energy management, troubleshooting of electrical systems, and MDP designs. This position will identify and make recommendations for efficiency improvements and provide technical counsel to Facilities leadership and staff as well as facilitate solutions to issues arising during design and construction phases of projects.

Responsibilities:


  • Support UCF's facility condition assessment (FCA) program and capital renewal portfolio with detailed building walk-downs, assessing and evaluating all deficiencies on building and campus electrical equipment and electrical distribution. Facilitate a prioritized allocation of capital planning needs by providing data to leadership for needs and budgetary forecasts and variance reports.

  • Perform highly technical design reviews of Electrical drawings and specifications for construction and operational projects, including building code and UCF Construction Standards reviews. Produce submittal review feedback addressing all errors, concerns, and recommendations for efficiency improvements. Responsible for leading projects from initial design to completion, visiting customer sites to discuss project requirements.

  • Conduct construction reviews of electrical equipment and electrical distribution for compliance, as requested by department leadership and project managers. Identify issues discovered and facilitate a resolution. Provide technical expertise and guidance to solve complex technical issues discovered when performing site inspections and site evaluations.

  • Serve as primary source of engineering consultation for projects to be conducted on UCF Facilities, infrastructure, or systems. Provide technical counsel to Facilities Project Managers and leadership regarding codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment and electrical distribution. Utilize data analytics to compile and summarize large datasets of information for future policies, reporting, presentations, and operational improvements.

  • Collaborate with facilities leadership staff and trades shops on reviews of campus Electrical systems and electrical distribution to improve system safety, functionality, and energy efficiency. Evaluate electrical distribution and electrical generating equipment for reliability, feasibility, and overall system performance. Develops scope of work, permit packages, field inspection reports as well as comprehensive Engineering reports.

  • Support and troubleshoot existing electrical distribution and generating systems for operations. Provide data analytics that advances leadership in facilities operational methods and deployment of technology to improve operational excellence and drive down O&M costs. Review and advise on revisions to UCF's Construction Standards. Prepare project specifications.

  • Prepare correspondences, periodic or special reports related to assignments; and contribute effectively to the accomplishment of the team or agency goals, objectives, and activities.

  • Perform field visits and inspections. Provide recommendation to leadership in the execution of improvement activities and engage in joint design optimization.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant toFla. Stat. 112.219(6). Licensed in a state of United States as a Professional Engineer. Must be licensed in the state of Florida as a Professional Engineer within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

  • Florida Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) License.

  • Florida Certified Electrical Contractor.

  • Certified Electrician (EC).

  • Registered Electrician (ER).

  • Certified Electrical Specialty Contractor (ES), and/or Registered Electrical Specialty Contractor (ET).
