However, for this position the total negotiated salary uses AAMC salary benchmarks for Anatomic Pathology ranging from $265,443 - $390,456. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The academic appointment may be at any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Clinical X faculty are expected to have more significant effort and accomplishments as thought leaders of research programs with practice-changing potential. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate. Applicants must have fellowship training in GI pathology, hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology, and have or be eligible for a California medical license. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be mainly responsible for clinical services in GI/liver and pancreas pathology, including frozen section on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows. This position will serve the laboratory needs of UCI Health, the only academic medical center in Orange County, which includes: the 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus that is under construction and scheduled to begin operations in 2024; and several outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
