"PEACS": Psychosis Risk Treatment & Research Program (.5 FTE)

Job Location: Aurora, Colorado

Nature of Work

We are seeking applicants for a .50 FTE (half time or 20 hours per week) licensed master's level clinician to begin as soon as possible. This clinician will join a new early psychosis program (Program for Early Assessment, Care, and Study; "PEACS"), within the Colorado University - Anschutz Medical Campus Department of Psychiatry. PEACS is a specialized clinical and research program focusing on young people ages 12-30 who are experiencing new or worsening symptoms that may be warning signs for developing a psychotic disorder (clinical high risk for psychosis / CHR-P; https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/psychiatry/research/programs-centers/psychiatry-research-innovations/PEACS). PEACS is a multidisciplinary team of providers and trainees from several disciplines coordinating to provide specialized CHR-P care. Our clinical work is connected with CHR-P research project. PEACS collaborates with a network of early psychosis experts, including a similar program in Boston, MA (CEDAR Clinic; www.cedarclinic.org).

The clinician will receive training and supervision to conduct specialized, evidence-based early psychosis evaluations and treatment (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis/CBT-P and family focused treatment/FFT). Additional educational opportunities in the emerging science of early intervention for psychosis will be available. The clinician will provide clinical services, including comprehensive clinical assessments and consultations, as well as individual, family, and potentially group psychotherapy to young people experiencing CHR-P and their families. This position uniquely combines clinical and research work and would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in gaining specialized expertise in early intervention for psychosis. PEACS is a new and growing program, so this role would also be the best fit for a clinician who enjoys learning about and contributing to program development.

PEACS operates as one specialist outpatient clinic in the larger Department of Psychiatry, and there may be opportunities for combining this halftime role with other positions in the department (e.g., to increase the time/FTE of this position and potentially create a full-time position). We are willing to discuss these opportunities with interested applicants.

Clinical Roles and Responsibilities May Include:



  1. Help cover for PEACS referrals (e.g., collect information about new PEACS referrals)
  2. Complete specialized training and ongoing supervision to conduct the Structured Interview for Psychosis Risk Syndromes (SIPS), and the Structured Clinical Interview for the DSM-5 (SCID), and other clinic and research assessments as relevant
  3. Conduct CHR-P specialized intakes and consultations; provide feedback and psychoeducation to youth, families, and community providers
  4. Provide CHR-P specialized individual and family treatment to a caseload of young people and families
  5. Selective outreach and case management with your caseload of clients
  6. Coordinate care with other members of the PEACS team and with external providers as clinically relevant (e.g., inpatient providers, schools, etc.)
  7. Contribute to training with local providers, as well as undergraduate and graduate trainees
  8. Participate in available early psychosis learning opportunities


Research Roles and Responsibilities May Include:



  1. Learn about PEACS databases and procedures
  2. Conduct evidence-based assessments for any CHR-P funded research studies
  3. Maintain detail-oriented, accurate research assessment documentation
  4. Join discussions about internal and external early psychosis research collaborations
  5. Learn about and assist with pieces of new early psychosis grant applications


Program Development Roles and Responsibilities May Include:



  1. Assist with building a relevant network for referrals, research, and shared learning
  2. Observe and lead early psychosis outreach, training, and consultation


Executive Functioning Clinic (.5 FTE)

Job Location: Aurora, Colorado

Brief Job Summary:

We are seeking applicants for a .50 FTE (half time or 20 hours per week) licensed master's level clinician to begin as soon as possible. This clinician will join the Executive Functioning (EF) Clinic, within the Colorado University - Anschutz Medical Campus Department of Psychiatry. EF clinic is a specialized clinical program that serves youth and adults who are experiencing adaptive daily living difficulties related to deficits in a set of brain-based skills referred to as executive functions. Individuals with executive functioning deficits may display difficulties with planning, getting started and completing activities, staying organized, self-monitoring their work and behavior, adapting to changes, and controlling impulses.

The clinician will receive training and supervision to conduct evidence-based EF screening and treatment. Treatment is conducted using the Unstuck and On-Target curriculum ( 2021, Cannon, Kenworthy, Alexander, Werner and Anthony), which targets skills to support flexible thinking, compromising, evaluating choices, regulating emotions, goal setting and planning, problem solving, and staying focused while managing distractions. The clinician will provide clinical services, including initial clinical assessments and consultations, as well as EF-focused individual and group psychotherapy to young people and their families. Individual therapy services also extend to clients in adulthood, excluding those experiencing EF deficits due to advanced aging processes such as dementia. As a relatively new specialty clinic, the EF clinic continues to extend and develop. Accordingly, this role would be the best fit for a clinician who would be enjoy learning about and participating in program development, including adapting interventions to serve unique patient needs, different age groups and in novel settings. Additional opportunities to co-lead community trainings with senior EF faculty are also possible.

Clinical Roles and Responsibilities May Include:



  1. Collect information about new EF clinic referrals
  2. Complete specialized training and ongoing supervision to conduct semi-structured interviews and administer normed screening assessments
  3. Provide feedback and psychoeducation to youth, families, and community providers
  4. Provide specialized individual and family treatment to a caseload of youth and their caregivers, as well as independent adults
  5. Outreach and case management with clients and the caretakers
  6. Coordinate care with other members of the EF clinic team and with external providers as clinically relevant (e.g., inpatient providers, schools, etc.)
  7. Contribute to training with local providers, as well as undergraduate and graduate trainees


Program Development Roles and Responsibilities May Include:



  1. Assist with building a relevant network for referrals and clinical collaboration.
  2. Contribute to community-facing program materials, including flyers and website content
  3. Observe and lead executive functioning outreach, training, and consultation



    Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

    Instructor: $59000 to $80,000.

    Senior Instructor: $59,000 to $80,000.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Instructor:



    • 1-3 years of related experience at rank or equivalent experience.
    • Master's degree and independently licensed in Colorado (LMHC or LCSW)
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience with youth with mental health challenges and/or functional difficulties related to neurodevelopmental conditions Strong foundational understanding of mental health diagnosis


    Senior Instructor:



    • 1-3 years of experience at rank or equivalent experience.
    • Master's degree and independently licensed in Colorado (LMHC or LCSW)
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience with youth with mental health challenges and/or functional difficulties related to neurodevelopmental conditions Strong foundational understanding of mental health diagnosis


    Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks)



    • Multilingual (e.g., Spanish)
    • Clinical specialization or expertise in evidence-based treatment for any of the following presenting concerns would be valued: depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and substance use
    • Completed academic/research presentations or publications
    • Exposure to early psychosis or psychosis risk clinical work
    • Strong familiarity with Colorado-area youth services and schools
    • Experience conducting structured interviews for clinical research
    • Clinical specialization or expertise in evidence-based treatment for neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), who present with common co-occurring mental health conditions including anxiety and depression.
    • Strong familiarity with Colorado-area youth services and schools
    • Ability to conduct therapy in Spanish would be highly valued
    • Commitment to cultural humility and competence when working with youth and families that are richly diverse in culture and background, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, socioeconomic status, ability, etc.
    • Capacity to seek and accept supervision to effectively work with youth displaying fluctuations in mood and behavior related to self-regulation deficits
    • Potential for flexibility once per week for evening assessments or treatment
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to write clearly and complete clinical documentation in a timely manner.
