Nature of Work:

The Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) and the Digestive Health Institute of Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) are seeking a BC/BE pediatric gastroenterologist for a faculty position to be located in Colorado Springs at the Briargate Clinic and Childrens Hospital Colorado - Colorado Springs. The candidate must be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatric gastroenterology and GI diagnostic procedures and qualify for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank as a Clinical-Educator in the CU SOM. Primary responsibilities will include outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric gastrointestinal disease at the Briargate Clinic in Colorado Springs and inpatient consultations and performance of GI procedures at the new 100 bed Children's Hospital in Colorado Springs (operated by CHCO) which is located across the street from the Briargate Clinic. The Briargate GI Clinic and the hospital have full-time dieticians and social worker support and on-site infusion center, laboratory, and radiology facilities. In addition to clinical responsibilities, education and teaching of medical students, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, and others will be an important responsibility. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of all pediatric GI and hepatology disorders; demonstrated skills in the full gamut of pediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures; excellent teaching and education skills, and excellent communication and team skills. The candidate will have completed fellowship in good standing in Pediatric Gastroenterology at RRC-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (or equivalent) degree and American Board of Pediatrics Board Certified in Pediatrics, and BE/BC in Pediatric Gastroenterology. The candidate will join 5 other Physicians and 3 PAs at our Colorado Springs location. Colorado Springs is a vibrant city with a metro population of 700,000, located 60 miles south of Denver at the base of Pikes Peak, within one of the most scenic areas of Colorado.

The successful candidate will join an expanding group of passionate, collaborative, dedicated academic pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists in a Pediatric GI/Hepatology/Nutrition program ranked #1 in the nation for two years running by U.S. News and World Report, at one of the top 10 Children's Hospitals in the United States (https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/digestive-health/). The Section is currently composed of 36 MD and 4 PhD faculty members, 10 fellows in an NIH T32-funded Pediatric GI training program, 11 Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistants, and a large team of nurses, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, transplant coordinators and support staff with the common mission of improving the digestive health of children. Highest quality patient care, cutting-edge research and career development and training are all of highest priority. The Section includes specific Centers or Programs in pediatric liver disease and transplantation, inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic GI diseases, celiac disease, intestinal rehabilitation, aerodigestive disorders, neurogastroenterology and motility, pancreatic disorders, gastrointestinal polyposis and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. Salary will be based on rank and includes an excellent benefits package. All faculty appointments are within the University of Colorado SOM, one of the top public medical schools in the nation. Examples of Work Performed:



  • Patient care in Pediatric Gastrointestinal Diseases at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Colorado Springs and CU Briargate Specialty Clinics for Children locations, including inpatient attending and outpatient clinics, as well as performing the full range of gastrointestinal procedures, including performance of procedures at CHCO facilities.
  • Provide consultative and call support services for CHCO and affiliated healthcare partners.
  • Clinical focus in GI diseases and be experienced in the full gamut of pediatric GI disorders and GI procedures
  • Education and teaching of pediatric and family practice residents, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, students, and others
  • Attend relevant conferences (Wednesday AM 07:30-9:00) and other continuing education opportunities
  • Attend bi-monthly Anschutz and Briargate faculty meetings via teleconference or in-person


Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $180,000 - $237,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



  • MD or DO Degree


  • ABP Pediatrics Board Certified
  • ABP Peds Gastroenterology Board eligible
  • Completed fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at RRC-approved fellowship (or equivalent) by the time of hire date


Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

Conditions of Employment:



  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous EPIC experience
  • Two or more years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in an academic medical center setting


Competencies:



  • Knowledge of all pediatric GI disorders
  • Demonstrated skills in the full gamut of pediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures
