Job Summary:



The Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) Division of the Department of Psychiatry invites applications for full-time faculty at the Associate or Professor rank to lead our efforts in advancing research related to child/adolescent suicide prevention within our learning health system initiative. The specific area of research emphasis within child/adolescent suicide is open but may include understanding risk and development of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, assessment and treatment, services research, and/or dissemination and implementation. The faculty member should have a track record of successfully obtaining extramural funding for research in suicide prevention, publishing in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and providing mentorship to trainees and junior faculty. The individual will also partner with stakeholders across the Department of Psychiatry, Children's Hospital Colorado, local school districts, advocacy groups, and/or state agencies to increase adoption of best practices for suicide prevention in Colorado. Strong preference will be given for clinical professionals who are license-eligible in Colorado.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Perform innovative, programmatic research that will advance understanding, assessment, prevention, and treatment of youth self-injury and suicide.
  • Establish a multi-disciplinary team of investigators and trainees, including a network of external collaborators, as supported by extramural funding.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative clinical, educational, and research programs related to youth suicide to enhance the local and national reputation of CAMH Division.
  • Establish new partnerships and strengthen existing partnerships with non-academic partners (e.g., community, clinical leaders, advocacy groups, etc.) to work toward the common goal of reducing the youth suicide rate in Colorado and nationally.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring colleagues and training the next cadre of learning health systems scientists focusing on youth suicide prevention.
  • Maintain a robust record of funding, ranging from contracts to grant funding from various sources including federal and non-federal sources.
  • Formulate strategies, best practices, and other approaches that are scalable for implementation in clinical and community settings.
  • Work with other faculty, project manager, and partners at the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) to develop and advance the learning health system program, including the governance structure and strategic mission and vision.
  • Support faculty recruitment and the infrastructure for faculty development.


Supervision Received:

This position reports to the Director of Research and Chair of the CAMH Division of the Department of Psychiatry.

Supervision Exercised:

This position will lead a multidisciplinary team of investigators and trainees in research on suicide prevention. There will also be opportunities to provide clinical supervision, training, and mentoring to mental health trainees.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This position will be hired at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Associate Professor:



  • 4-7 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: M.D., Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Minimum of 6 years of research experience in suicide prevention in healthcare, community, and/or school contexts.


Professor:



  • 7+ years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: M.D., Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Minimum of 6 years of research experience in suicide prevention in healthcare, community, and/or school contexts.


Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks):



  • Board Certified, Licensed, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Demonstrated experience conducting pragmatic clinical trials in the area of suicide prevention and/or interventions for self-injurious and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
  • Strong knowledge of ethical principles in conducting research with suicidal youth and other high-risk populations. Experience with COMIRB or other institutional review boards to conduct research in the area of suicide prevention.
  • Proven success of securing sustained contract or grant funding from state or federal agencies (e.g. DHHS, AHRQ, NIH, CMS, CDC, SAMHSA, HRSA, VA, DOD, ED) or large foundation (PCORI, RWJ, WTG) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-partner initiatives and collaborations. Experience building collaborative relationships and ensuring cohesiveness among various entities, programs, and groups.
  • Knowledge of participatory research approaches and the ability to meaningfully engage with diverse, multi-level partners to identify and prioritize research questions that address the needs of clinicians, patients, families, and community members.
  • Understanding of the goals and priorities of learning health systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise reports and presentations about data and complex issues. Ability to effectively communicate with faculty/staff, healthcare providers, administrators, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated scientific stature in peer-review publications and service to professional organizations.
  • Strong commitment to education and track record of mentoring trainees and other staff.
  • Proven administration and/or leadership abilities, including ability to lead medium to large-sized projects or study teams with six or more staff.
  • Knows and applies best practices in diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

MD and/or DO

Associate Professor: $250,000 to $270,000

Professor: $280,000 to $310,000

PhD and/or PsyD

Associate Professor: $130,000 to $145,000

Professor: $175,000 to $205,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
