Nature of Work

The Department of Pathology is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team of interdisciplinary investigators focused on mechanisms of breast cancer drug resistance and metastasis. This full-time postdoctoral research position will provide training in working with patient specimens, pre-clinical oncology models and next generation sequencing with an emphasis on single cell technologies. These studies are funded by the NIH and Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The successful candidate will work with the Hormone Dependent Breast Cancer Translational Research Group and will have the opportunity to interact with researchers from multiple disciplines, both locally and nationally. The overall goals of the postdoctoral fellow position are to advance knowledge of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer with improvement in medicines that will help transform later-stage breast cancer into a chronic disease. There will be some opportunities for learning bioinformatics skills. The PI and department are committed to supporting the fellow's career development with authorship on manuscripts, facilitating grant submissions, opportunities to present at local and national scientific meetings, and developing new projects and collaborations. The department research centers on cancer biology with a collaborative and interactive group of PIs and trainees and state of the art equipment.

Examples of Work Performed

* Execution of molecular biology assays including protein/mRNA/DNA extraction, processing, and analysis.

* Processing and management of patient tissue samples (serum, normal tissues, tumor tissues and fluid).

* Next generation sequencing applications including single cell platforms; understanding of genomic-based platforms and sample preparation.

* Working with primary breast cancer cell lines and organoids.

* Complete research projects, data analysis, and prepare research presentations and written manuscripts for first author publications.

* Collaboration with other laboratories including PIs, other postdoctoral fellows, and bioinformaticians with opportunities for co-authorships.

* Presenting research at national and international scientific meetings.

* Opportunities to submit grants for postdoctoral research fellowships

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

* PhD degree, or expected graduation within 6 months, from an accredited college or university in the biological sciences or related field.

* A publication record in PubMed referenced journals.

Preferred Qualifications

* Excellent communication skills.

* Excellent organizational skills.

* Excellent skills in scientific writing.

* Ability to work independently yet collaboratively.

* A strong work ethic and commitment to being a team player and advancing knowledge in the field.

* Eligibility for federal grants from the National Institutes of Health or Department of Defense.

* Experience in cancer research with skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques and working with laboratory animals.

* Previous experience with molecular biology techniques including RNA/DNA isolation, tissue culture, immunohistochemistry.

* Experience with animal models of cancer and/or patient samples.

* Prior experience in next generation sequencing.

* Knowledge of programming software including R.
