Position description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Schilling lab in the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology, University of California, Irvine (https://www.tschilling.bio.uci.edu/) to study the genetic mechanisms that coordinate cell migration and cell fate determination during the embryonic development of neural crest cells in zebrafish.

We are interested in how highly migratory cells such as neural crest cells in vertebrate embryos acquire diverse fates such as cartilage, bone, neurons, glia or pigment cells. To address this issue, we take a very multi-disciplinary approach including transcriptomic/bioinformatics analyses, genome editing, zebrafish mutants/transgenics and computational modeling to dissect neural crest cell heterogeneity. We also study gene function using zebrafish mutants, many of which are models for human neural crest-related disorders including craniofacial birth defects, such as cleft palate.

We seek a highly motivated and career-oriented candidate with research expertise in developmental and/or cell biology and molecular genetics, preferably with some experience in bioinformatic analysis. We prefer candidates within a year before or after their graduation with a PhD. A track record of excellent first author publication(s) is required.

To apply, one should submit their curriculum vitae and the contact information via the following recruitment URL: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09030

Please apply by the initial review date listed above, for full consideration.
