Reporting to the Associate Director, the Teaching Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the Teacher in the planning, organizing, and implementation of the instructional program in a preschool, elementary, or secondary learning environment. This individual must function in a manner that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

DUTIES



  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning;
  • Assist with delivering lesson plans, tests, and educational assessments in accordance with established procedures;
  • Assist with the instruction and monitoring of students in learning materials and equipment;
  • Effectively use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction;
  • Effectively manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures;
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the program;
  • Provide students the appropriate assistance and feedback on classroom assignments;
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies;
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development;
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely in alignment with ORR requirements;
  • Participate in school activities, staff, and treatment team meetings;
  • Supervise children during field trips and in the classroom;
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to the case management team, Lead Clinician, support team, and the assigned supervisor regarding student progress, concerns, or needs;
  • Serve as backup to the Teacher and provide instruction to students as needed;
  • Assist the teacher with creating lesson plans and classroom curriculum;
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's level degree from an accredited college, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred;
  • Prior work experience teaching ELL/ESL, preferred;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required;
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity, preferred;
  • Must possess an ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in Spanish and English with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds;
  • Must be flexible and creative in a diverse work setting;
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized;
  • Highly motivated and self-managed;
  • Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions.


SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS



  • Must be willing and able to clear a criminal background check for the past seven (7) years;
  • Must be willing and able to request and clear Child Abuse and Neglect background checks in all states lived within the previous five (5) years, updated yearly.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain an FBI fingerprint check every five (5) years;
  • Must have a valid driver's license and MVA check free of major infractions for the last seven (7) years;
  • Must clear a State of Maryland Department of Public Safety and Corrections Services screening;
  • Must complete a bi-annual physical exam and TB testing, under Maryland state licensing requirements;
  • Must maintain proof of childhood and annual vaccinations, including MMR, varicella, Tdap, influenza, and COVID-19;
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AEC certified upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
