Job Overview

The leader in this role has the sole responsibility for the entire plant.The plant is a manufacturing operation & is responsible to direct manufacturing activities necessary to produce precision gears & related products for Joy mining equipment applications.The person in this role must be a strong leader, "high energy", a quick decision maker, analytical, objective, fair, consistent, tactical and strategic. This is a very highly visible key leadership position requiring a person that is also an innovative solution provider, whom develops solutions to complex challenges where solutions are not readily apparent.The person in this position will drive accountability to all levels of the organization. Key performance indicator metrics need to be developed and maintained to ensure operational performance success.The successful person in this role will carefully manage his or her own priorities as well as the priorities of the team

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Direct manufacturing activities to meet delivery schedules, cost guidelines, quality standards, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain favorable employee relations environment assuring that the labor contract is administered equitably & consistently. Work with Human Resources to establish & maintain plant rules & personnel policies. Participate in labor contract negotiations.
  • Create a work environment with a high sense of urgency. Direct the efforts of the production supervisors and related personnel, assuring safe work practices, a safe work environment, and compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations. Ensure that plant safety standards are maintained & communicated.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend ways to reduce engineering or manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving performance or quality standards. Coordinate with Engineering Manager in the design of new products to ensure manufacturing processes can be developed to meet customer demand.
  • Research, analyze, and implement improved manufacturing techniques and equipment & recommend cost improvement ideas that will benefit the company.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications for the selection and purchase of capital equipment. Prepare appropriate requests on a regular basis, perform capital equipment planning functions, and lead oversee the implementation of all capital equipment projects. Prepare total manufacturing budget with input for subordinate & dotted-line managers.
  • Support and drive operations excellence improvements on a constant and regular basis. Be a true change agent and drive continuous improvement with passion and enthusiasm.
  • Implement and maintain the necessary metrics and visual management to drive results.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5-8 years' experience in similar role
  • A degree in Engineering with experience in Gear Manufacturing Preferred
  • Demonstrated and proven leadership abilities
  • Significant experience leading and interacting with an hourly work force in an union facility
  • Effective decision making abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated capacity management abilities
  • Proven problem solving abilities
  • Experienced performance based manager
