Description

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University's Saint Joseph's College in Indianapolis, IN, seeks dynamic and innovative leaders for multiple part-time, non-tenure track Adjunct Instructor positions. The adjunct will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by serving as mentors for our students. We are particularly looking for professionals who can teach courses in Business, Early Childhood Education, Health and Human Services, Health Sciences (Pre-Nursing track), and Information Technology. Our mission, rooted in the liberal arts, is driven by the desire to expand educational opportunities to a diverse student population. We seek enthusiastic, team-oriented instructors to help build an innovative curriculum and engage our students through community partnerships, internships, and experiential learning opportunities.

The institution offers a unique "earn and learn" model where students work in their field while pursuing their degrees. As Indy's only program of its kind, it allows students to gain valuable work experience and earn an income while completing their studies. This approach integrates academic learning with practical employment, fostering both professional and personal growth. Successful applicants are expected to share their discipline knowledge and teach using a hands-on approach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Design and Develop Course Content: Create and curate high-quality course materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments, that align with learning objectives and curriculum guidelines.
  • Facilitate Engaging Learning Experiences: Utilize Canvas tools and features effectively to enhance student engagement and promote meaningful interactions.
  • Provide Ongoing Course Maintenance: Maintain the course shell throughout the semester, ensuring it is up-to-date with the latest developments in the discipline.
  • Utilize Open Educational Resources (OER) Texts: Prioritize the use of OER texts whenever possible to promote accessibility and affordability for students.
  • Create and Upload Pre-Recorded Instructional Videos: Develop and deliver pre-recorded instructional videos for each lesson, providing clear explanations and visual aids to enhance student understanding.
  • Adhere to the 16-Week Semester Schedule: Ensure that course content and activities are paced appropriately and aligned with designated deadlines.
  • Commitment and Knowledge of the Earn-and-Learn Model


Required Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University.
  • Graduate degree (PhD preferred); credentials in the relevant field will be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Commitment to innovative, flexible, and engaging pedagogy, including active discussion environments and project-based learning.
  • Experience working with underserved students or a desire to work with these populations.
